A call to all artists and those working in the arts sector in Wales

Dear Colleagues,

Cynnal Cymru-Sustain Wales is planning a series of events which will bring together artists, and people working within the arts sector in Wales to address the concept of sustainability:  'The art of living well, within the ecological limits of a finite planet.'

We aim to organise a series of events to discuss how artists and the arts might want to participate in, inspire or even lead the debate on the creation of a sustainable Wales. The artistic process and creative enquiry is at the heart of social change. This is not about art as propaganda, it is about the questioning, anarchic and unpredictable spirit of art and how it could inform and inspire a new vision at this time of ecological, economic and social instability.

Your opinions are important for the success of the project. We want to know if you would be interested in such  events, what it is that you would want from them and, most importantly, how you would like to shape and participate in them. We want to hear the views of as many artists as possible from all creative disciplines and from anyone who works to support the arts infrastructure in Wales. Please help us by taking part in an on-line survey. It will take between five and ten minutes to complete.

The link below will take you to the survey.

Please feel free to forward this link and information on to others.

The survey will close at the end of May.

Thank you for your time.

Cardiff Uni did an evening exploring 'What have the arts got to do with sustainability?' last Autumn, with various lecturers speaking as well as Robert Minhinnick, Welsh writer. By the end of the evening any artists in the room were banging their heads against tables because if it is left to academics alone to set a new vision, we will still be sitting round tables discussing and debating it in 10 years time! We need warriors!
Tracy - that is precisely what this project is about. Artists have always been at the vanguard of cultural and social change. We are warriors and we need to engage with the whole 'hell in a handcart' trajectory of the world rather than fiddle while the planet burns. More on this project soon but please take five minutes to fill in the survey. Cheers.
Looking forward to seeing how this project develops Phil. One thing I do think is that the most inspirational artists working within the sustaibaility arenas are the ones that don't treat it as a didactic platform opportunity, but imbed principles of sustainability into the fibre of their work. I think Volcano's work is a great example.
