‘The Road Ahead’

CASTING CALL - “SOME KIND OF IMMORTALITY” – Tony Curtis

Would you like to work on a Trilogy of new short plays, written by a renowned, published, Barry-based poet and author? Three slivers of contemporary life, posing some intriguing situations and questions.

“Jumping”

Clifton Suspension Bridge – an infamous suicide spot. A woman stands on the bridge, reading a notice about The Samaritans. She considers the impact the choices people make may have on the lives of others. The piece is largely a monologue.

Unnamed Woman: Aged 18-30;

Gemma: Aged 18-30. (A small part, with the possibility of doubling up with a part in one of the other pieces.)

“Some Kind of Immortality”

A man uses sperm donation, as a sideline, to financially support his family. He hides this activity from his wife in an usual way. He has also “gone rogue/ underground” – not using established companies – in order to avoid any strict guidelines and bureaucracy. So, with no restrictions on the number of “clients” or “donations”, he can make much more cash! The piece is largely a monologue.

Man: Aged 40-50;

Alice: Aged 30-40. (A small part, on stage throughout, with the possibility of doubling up with a part in one of the other pieces.

“A Cuckoo in the Nest”

A University Lecturer takes in an apparently terminally ill student, but her act of kindness has unforeseen consequences. Each character has at least one monologue.

Sally: A University Lecturer; Aged 40-50;

Mike: Sally’s husband; Aged 40-50;

Jenny: Their daughter – a student; Aged early 20’s;

Jane: A student – the cuckoo in the nest of the title; Aged early 20’s.
