Now entering its fifth year the 2016 All Wales Comic Verse Competition continues to offer some of the largest cash prizes for any poetry competition in Wales, comic or otherwise.  Appealing to a wide cross section of poets, previous entrants have included those short-listed for the Wales Book of the Year, the John Tripp Award for Performance Poetry and Ireland’s Percy French Prize for Comic Poetry as well as those writing purely for pleasure.

Attracting competitors from all parts of the country, former finalists have traveled from Gwynedd, Wrexham and West Wales to compete.  Taking place in the beautiful grounds of the historic Priory Hotel, as in previous years broadcaster and former “Newport Town Poet”, Goff Morgan will host the live performance final ably supported during the judging interval by 2014 Costa Poetry Prize winner Jonathan Edwards

As usual the competition forms part of the Celf Caerleon Arts Festival, “Literature on the Lawn” weekend.
