Event Description

Cathy and Joe are the antithesis to the Oxo family. Who ever said that families were ‘happy and fulfilling’ will not be receiving a Christmas card from this couple.

However, rather than appearing dysfunctional, Bjorn and Bread presents an element of a lot of people’s reality when it comes to the daily claustrophobia that can come from modern marriage and having children.

A darkly comic piece of direct theatre, it asks the central question of ‘If we have children, then why are we really still together?’ Is it for the sake of the children, social convention, enduring love maybe?

In a society where the family and the vague concept of ‘family values’ is being rammed down our throats by political and religious leaders, Cathy and Joe wonder if they are going to survive as a couple where divorce has lost its social stigma and both parties to the relationship want different things for their lives.

Throwing the rose tinted glasses of marriage into the dustbin of history, Bjorn and Bread aims to be a moratorium to the idea of families being somehow ‘natural’, ‘inevitable’ and the best form of relationship.
