Event Description

Physical theatre company, Tangled Feet, will be running the next Hijinx Residency from 8-12 September 2014.

An ensemble dedicated to devising original, accessible and innovative work, Tangled Feet make transformative theatre in public places, found spaces and theatre buildings; including shopping centres, parks, nightclubs, school playing fields, disused buildings and high streets.

“probably the most accessible and original physical theatre company working in the UK today” The Stage

This week long workshop will be a chance to engage and participate in Tangled Feet's devising methodologies and working practice, finding new ways to inhabit an environment and to open up to an audience. Lead by two highly experienced professionals, John Hinton and Cristina Catalina, you are invited to build an outdoor piece of theatre from scratch that can take place at any time in any location thus creating truly accessible theatre.

John Hinton is an actor, playwright, director and teacher of a wide range of performance skills. His award-winning solo musical comedies about Charles Darwin and Albert Einstein have toured multiple continents. He has been a member of Tangled Feet since 2008, and has worked on six of their shows, most recently co-directing their show Push. His specialist areas as a workshop leader include mime, improvisation, devising, clowning and circus skills. He trained at the Jacques Lecoq physical theatre school in Paris.

Regular performer with Tangled Feet and Firehouse, Cristina Catalina is an actor, creative producer and translator. She regularly works with devising ensembles and theatre-makers to research and develop new work and international collaborations. She co-produces All Change performance festival - this year as a Fun Palace at The Lyric in Hammersmith. Her keen sense of adventure has literally lifted her high above the ground, turned her into a human Catherine wheel, from a woman to a man, and thrown her out of a Southbank Centre window to outrun a prehistoric reptile.

Working inclusively
The week will also give you the opportunity to experiment in working inclusively. If you have never worked alongside learning disabled performers The Hijinx Residencies are a fantastic opportunity to do so. A number of places at each course will be allocated to students from the Hijinx Academy, our drama training course for talented learning disabled actors. Come ready to work in a lively, empowering and massively enjoyable environment.
