Event Description

LIVING PICTURES PRODUCTIONS in association with Cegin productions and Trinity University College presents Strindberg’s MISS JULIE in a new translation by Ragna Weisteen.

Set at the turn of the 20th Century, Strindberg's classic tale deals with the struggles of class, love and lust.
It’s Midsummer’s Eve, on the estate of a Count in Wales, and a young woman, Miss Julie (played by Ranga Weisteen), is attempting to escape an existence cramped by the social constraints of the time. She provocatively dances with some of the men at the servants' Midsummer party and in particular, Jean (played by Rhydian Jones), her father’s footman. Midsummer’s Eve is known for its madness… Jean and Miss Julie go too far…there is no turning back.

This exciting new production features a new translation, a choir singing live each night and will be performed in English and Welsh. It is directed by Living Pictures joint Artistic Director Robert Bowman (Bristol Old Vic and RSC) and performed by Ragna Weisteen (Joint Artistic Director Bastionen Theatre, Malmo, Sweden), Rhydian Jones (S4C, Royal National Theatre) and Sian Summers (Sherman Cymru).

Living Pictures Productions is a registered charity formed in 1999 by Elen and Robert Bowman. Both have worked extensively as actors and have undergone Russian directing training in the 1990s.
The Company was formed to find new and engaging ways to train for and perform theatre art and to encourage and develop new work and new European translations.

Miss Julie is touring Wales from Wednesday 9th June 2010 until Saturday 26th June 2010.
