I thought I would never see the light again, never enjoy the sun on my skin or rejoice in drawing breath again. Ever. But I have. (Elaine Paton Journal entry 2002)
Since 1908 Whitchurch Hospital has been in the business of treating people with mental illness. The building, eroded by time, is closing its doors forever and the residents are moving on.
Moment(o)s of Leaving will lift the veil on a hospital shrouded in mythical and archaic notions of insanity. You will visit wards and explore spaces ordinarily hidden from public view.
“It was such a powerful experience even for me, who has worked in this building for over 20 years.” - Simone Joslyn, Adult Mental Health Unit Cardiff and Vale UHB
“It felt like an honour to be able to experience the sharing in this special place, listening to the true stories of some of the residents and for a short time to become part of the history of the building.”- James Robert Auheb, Human Compass Theatre
