Event Description

The Odyssey

Funded by ACW & Big Lottery

When: 22 – 30 July | Cost: £250 | Where: Carmarthenshire |10.00 – 5.00 | Who for : Directors

Award winning leadership consultant, storyteller and artist Alexander Mackenzie will host a nine day process at Coed Dylan with ten young homeless participants of the Wallich Trust and members of the local community exploring Odysseus heroic journey. The process will afford reflection and identification of our inner hero in answer to our life stories.

As stories emerge you as directors will work alongside Alexander and Elen Bowman to realise the emerging creative ideas in found spaces at Green Castle Woods. A special emphasis will be to encourage leadership skills in the Wallich participants. Alexander is a highly regarded leadership consultant at Cranfield University and has worked with leaders of world corporations. You will therefore benefit from expert guidance in this field to harness your own sense of leadership as the project unfolds.

You will also collaborate with dancer Eeva Maria Mutka who will explore the body’s ecology to find the physical journey of the storytelling and NT composer Simon Allen who will create instruments from found objects and create a collective soundscape.

Your process will also include an exploration of communal living, foraging & cooking, organic gardening and woodland management skills. The process will culminate in a showing to the public at Green Castle woods which you as directors will shape and deliver.

You will be an individual who is dedicated to transformative practice to enable fragile young people to express their creativity. You will work as a creative buddy and illicit trust to help develop the group’s communication and collaboration.

You can either camp for free at Coed Dylan which is the company’s off grid base, or you can camp at a local camp site or stay at a hostel for reasonable rates (£17pn). The cost of the workshop includes a midday meal.

Coed Dylan is in Carmarthenshire, South Wales to which there is access by direct train from Paddington station at £82.00 return or a Mega Bus service for around £1.00 and free pick up from stations.
