Phantom Ride

Chapter arts centre, market road, canton, Cardiff

featuring special guest Mike Pearson

In the early 20th century William Haggar, a travelling entertainer from Essex settled in Wales and unwittingly helped to transform live entertainment into the ‘cultural industries’.
With their unique brand of ‘propositional performance’, good cop bad cop draw on reports of Haggar’s long lost films to evoke an era of artistic and commercial experimentation.

At a time when films could be advertised by length in feet, a Burry Port shipwreck could pass as newsreel of the Titanic and assaulting the police could pass as a comic act.

Things could have turned out very differently.....

“Phantom Ride elevates the art of the unreliable narrator to a new level – its very unreliability is unreliable...clever, funny and filled with deadpan charm” Andre Lukowski, Metro

“Humorous, imaginative, unpretentious and thought provoking, my kind of art” Rachel Calder, artist and filmaker

Other stuff start:

Morgan, Rowley and Pearson have been working together for over 20 years. In 1990 Pearson directed Morgan and Rowley's debuts in Brith Gof's Pax. They went on to work together on 13 other Brith Gof projects - including one never seen, and seven Pearson/Brookes projects. In 2010 Morgan and Rowley featured in National Theatre Wales critically acclaimed "The Persians", directed by Pearson.

At short notice Morgan and Rowley were offered the opportunity to perform their 2008 work 'phantom ride' at Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff. Their original collaborator for this project, Louise Ritchie, was unavailable to perform. She has been temporarily replaced replaced by Mike Pearson. This is the first time ever that the three of them have performed together without anyone else...
