Event Description

Throughout November Le Public Space will be supporting four solo-artists in the development and creation of new performance work in The Venue at Le Pub. Supported by ACW.

Each artist will be given rehearsal space, technical support, digital support and a small amount of funding in order to create a rough work in progress performance that will be shared with an audience online as part of RIGHT NOW.

At a time when larger arts venues aren’t able to function properly, we want to step up and help protect some of Wales’ creative sector by supporting Theatre Makers and Performance Artists who are willing and able to explore new work in alternative ways under these haphazard conditions.

This project is also about offering audiences an insight into the working processes of live art, how it functions and why it’s necessary. All whilst supporting and promoting the amazing artists who in turn support our venue by making it the thriving multi-functioning community art space that it is, and will someday be again.

“RIGHT NOW is an expression of urgency. Because theatre isn’t temporarily paused waiting to happen somewhere in the near future. It’s alive but physically unable to be experienced. It’s here now.”

WHEN?
"RIGHT NOW is a week long online festival that will focus on the sharing of four work-in-progress performances from four featured artists. During the rest of the week there will also be webinars, workshops and micro-performance opportunities for audiences and artists alike."

The performances will be streamed LIVE online sometime between 23rd and 28th of Nov, with additional activities and opportunities available between 23rd and 28th of Nov.

WHY?
Live Art is in crisis. As a publicly owned multi-functional music venue, pub and arts centre we believe we have a responsibility to support the creative sector in Wales in anyway we can. We are making this festival of work public to not only connect artists with audiences, but to promote the wealth of talent and ideas that exist in Wales, currently unable to flourish and function.

We also want to promote the power of venues like us that can offer alternative-arts/artists the perfect space to explore, connect and publicly acknowledge important and revolutionary ideas.

This festival celebrates rough, raw, un-ready performance, offering insight into the creative process and starting a conversation between artist, audiences and other creatives, proving that artists are here and ready to make work.
