Xmas Open Space: What’s a theatre maker’s utopia?
Fri 7th December 2012
6.30pm at Chapter (First Space), Market Road, Cardiff CF5 1QE.
Hosted by Lucid
Open Space is a radically new way of bringing people together that allows you to have the conversations you really want to have. It has taken off in the theatre world where people love its flexibility and spontaneity. You can propose a starting point for discussion, stick with a single conversation, or move around the room. More and more people are finding common cause through open space around issues that matter to them. This is Lucid’s fourth and, as usual, you can bring any subject along that you want to talk about.
This time Matt Ball, Creative Associate at National Theatre Wales, will be there and wants to talk about how we develop work:
“To scratch, or not to scratch, that is the question… How would we create work in utopia?
Scratch, work-in-progress, seed commission, try out, script-in-hand, R&D… There are as many ways to make new work as there are makers and a proliferation of ways for us to show it prior to being 'finished'. Is this a good thing or are we just asking each other to pay for the privilege of watching our half-baked ideas? If we started again how would we want to make our work and share it with an audience? Come and join me on December 7th and maybe we can begin to make a little bit of your utopia real.”
