Event Description

DAW is delighted to announce the launch of Theatre Summer School 2012.

This year's course takes place at the University of Wales, Newport - Caerleon from 12th - 18 August.

Choose between two fantastic courses: Theatre Mezzeor Approaching Shakespeare with the RSC

Theatre Mezze with Ben Humphrey

Join professional Director Ben Humphrey for jam-packed course that is designed to take your knowledge and practice of theatre to a whole new level. Devising, acting, vocal-work, mask-work, physical theatre and text study will be woven into a week of intense and exciting work that will give you an insight into contemporary theatre practices as well as improving theatrical stamina and dexterity in all aspects of your performance.

Techniques learnt and implemented on the course are directly transferable to both amateur and professional theatre.

Ben Humphrey: Ben is currently Artistic Director of the award winning Swan Youth Theatre Associate Director of the Worcester Repertory Company. Having originally trained as an actor at the prestigious Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Ben has gone on to have a very successful career in theatre, radio and TV before stepping backstage to take the helm on various professional productions. He is also one of the country's most popular adjudicators and has strong links with drama training for the DAW. He was the co-founder of the Actor's Institute in Bristol, Director of the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School's Youth Theatre and is also an Associate Research fellow with the University of Worcester.

Approaching Shakespeare with the RSC

Join practitioners from the Royal Shakespeare Company for a series of intensive workshops.

Throughout the week you will work to explore and unlock the language of Shakespeare and bring the text to life. The course will go on to explore how one approaches staging a Shakespeare production.

Suitable for both beginners and the more experienced, this course is suitable for both actors and directors and offers the incredible chance to work with practitioners from one of the most respected and highly acclaimed theatre companies in the world.
