Through a series of surreal, nostalgic and captivating scenarios the piece draws on personal experiences of the artist Sarah Vaughan-Jones in order to investigate how we measure and gauge an understanding of the passage of time according to personal and social influences. The piece is an interactive fusion of live music, dance and innovative performance technologies that reveal the malleable, fickle yet profound qualities in the concept of time perception.
What distracts us from the passage of time as though our actions are greater than time itself, and what makes the hours feel like a daunting burden that washes away our prospects and dreams?
For Sarah, the plan is to create an intimate reflective atmosphere that challenges the audience to engage with the fascinating concepts that linger behind our perception of time.
‘The time which we have at our disposal everyday is elastic; the passions that we feel expand it, those that we inspire contract it; and habit fills up what remains.’
Marcel Proust, 1919
