Event Description

"In the mid 16th century the word emotion denoted a public disturbance from the French words for ‘excite’, ‘out’ and ‘move’” (from Miranda Tufnell’s 2017 book, When I Open My Eyes). To feel and to act on a feeling can be a political act. ‘Women In Motion' is an emotional, political and personal movement. Moving together. Shaking off the day, the month, the patriarchy. Pulsating, making boundaries, creating and reclaiming space, imagining animalistic identities.

ANYONE and EVERYONE is welcome. Participants will be led through an improvised movement score (meaning that images and ideas will be offered and you will choose how to move in response). The score is designed to empower reconnection to, and reclamation of, the female body and feminine self, a letting go of appearance, of roles, of expectations, listening to sensation and a celebration of femininity- whatever that means for you.

Dance Studio at Chapter
Pay what you like (suggested donation £5)

Dance artist, Zosia Jo worked for over a year with Women's only community dance groups in Cairo, Egypt on a project called Dancing The Self. After which she spent her MA year at Independent Dance/Trinity Laban further researching the methodology. The score has been used in a workshop setting to build confidence and self-expression as well as in a performative setting and is enjoyable and accessible for dancers and non dancers alike.

This event will be held during the open portion of Groundspace. If you would like to book the space afterward (11.30am-1.30pm) for your own practice go to www.groundworkpro.com/about/groundspace/
You can also book the open groundspace sessions in order to share your practice in a similar way. We will advertise it as a Pay What You Like class and you can collect the donations. Or you can receive free mentoring as part of our new teacher's scheme. Contact us to discuss groundworkprocardiff@gmail.com
