Event Description

{A Free Blysh Festival Event}

Wondermart takes a playful swipe at supermarket culture and consumerism by taking participants on 30 minute journey through an unassuming local supermarket. Wheeling through the aisles, following instructions from a headset you become immersed in a magical world in a familiar setting - an entirely different kind of trip to the shops than the one you’ll be used to... and the coolest thing? No-one knows you’re doing it.

Ant Hampton formed Rotozaza in 1998 and joined with Silvia Mercuriali shortly afterwards. Since then they have worked together on over 20 Rotozaza productions in various different countries and languages, including Etiquette which visited the Centre in 2009.

In 2001 Rotozaza came up with the idea of Autoteatro, a self-generating style of performance where the audience's participation is the show, and nothing else. In these types of performances audiences are given instructions (usually through headphones) and then required to respond accordingly in order to create the performance.

There are two ways in which you can participate in Wondermart....

From 16 July you’ll be able to download the audio file to your MP3 player for free from the Centre's website. You’ll be given a few pieces of information when you download the track telling you what to do and how to get the most out of your experience.

If you don’t have an MP3 player you can contact our Ticket Office where you will be able to borrow one that has the file you’ll need to participate in Wondermart on it. We’ll ask you for a deposit of £20 or your Passport or mobile phone which we will hold until you return the MP3 to the Centre, making the experience completely free.

The work is programmed in collaboration with Galeri, Caernarfon as a part of our 5 year creative partnership and will take place in both Galeri and Wales Millennium Centre between 16 July and 1 August. Wales Millennium Centre has created the Welsh language version of Wondermart for audiences the Centre and Galeri, so you can enjoy this experience in the language of your choice.

This show is part of Blysh - the Centre’s carnival, cabaret and vaudeville summer festival.
