Event Description

JOIN PRODUCERS AND FILM AND THEATRE FOLK AT A CELBRITY REHEARSED READING OF A CONTROVERSIAL NEW PLAY.

At 7pm on Sunday October 18th, Adrian Drew’s controversial new play “You Bring Me Joy” will receive a premiere rehearsed reading at Greenwich Theatre in London given by leading figures in the world of stage and screen.

Charlotte Moore (Queen Elizbeth 2nd in The Audience, Rain Man, Carousel), American actor, Nigel Barber (The Bodyguard, Mission Impossible 5 and Spectre - the new James Bond) and newcomer Michael Idris (Orlando in As You Like It and  - Son of Man) will be playing the leads in this “emotional rollercoaster” receiving its first public presentation.

Set in present day Blackheath in South East London, the play deals with a very complex relationship indeed that develops between a married middle-aged scriptwriter and a young student film-maker – and certainly does not pull its punches in its portrayal of emotional turmoil!

The performance is open to the general public but is also for producers and actors to gain a sneak-preview of this new drama that is being developed for the screen too. Amongst the film and theatre folk attending will be Award winning writer, five times Emmy nominated, Thom Racina to whom the play is dedicated and who is flying over from Los Angeles for the performance.

The play’s author Adrian Drew has written 25 plays that have been staged on the London Fringe, and one off-Broadway, as well as in regional venues.

“You Bring Me Joy” he says, “is an attempt to present a relationship that transcends assumed sexual preferences and is something more usually found in Greek classical literature – the genre in which the emotional core of the drama is founded. So be prepared for a no holds barred look at ‘this thing we know as love’ in all its joy, misery and transcendence too!”

It’s a busy time for Adrian, who has worked for Lord Attenborough and has brought actors as famous as Bette Davis, Orson Welles and Clint Eastwood to the UK.  The showcase of his new play “Time Out of Mind” about Marlowe and Shakespeare recently played to capacity audiences and is set to tour next year, his play “Edith & Jessie” about two rival academics will be premiered at The Maddermarket Theater in Norwich the second week of November and yet another of his works “The Darkling Heart” about Thomas Hardy and his first wife, showcases in London on November 27th

Tickets are now on sale for “You Bring Me Joy” and - as all of Adrian Drew’s previous showcases have been sold out over eight weeks prior to performances – it’s best to check the Greenwich Theatre’s website as soon as possible if you are interested in attending this special preview. www.greenwichtheatre.org.uk or Box Office 0208 858 7755
