Two years ago a group of Somali poets from Butetown walked into the National Theatre Wales office and said they wanted to make a show...
Their award-winning story begins in Somalia and sails to Cardiff’s Tiger Bay.
On the 3rd March you are welcomed to Butetown to be part of their story. Join us for two parades, intimate house visits, a parliament of poetry and a beautiful finale across the harbour.
Supported by Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
De Gabay will take place on Sunday 3rd March 2013, in and around Butetown, Cardiff.

Ahmed, really enjoyed reading your draft - some smashing imagery, esp. in the "major waves". You should know that I'm already telling virtual strangers that they MUST come back to Cardiff with me next year to see the show...
Heres A little free style poem which is not finished hope you enjoy it!!!!
The Narrator
Entered through the fierce waves of Tiger Bay
Today many assumptions about the locals yesterday
Worked hard on the ships and created major waves in the UK
Created paths for the next generation. But will they stay?
Born in Wales which makes him a citizens
Sons of seamen who are proud Somali men
Who nurture there kids to be honourable honest men
Bilingual educated and helpful men
Who know there background ancestry linage and mothers tongue
going to the mosque and learning about the oneness of god
The creator of the universe is the one that makes hearts beat
I've left the past and thank god for not making me BAD
