Hi all. Following on from the amazing work of our NTW17 Communications TEAM we are now looking for people to help us promote The Radicalisation of Bradley Manning. You'll work with our Communications Department, our Promoter and me to come up with ways to help spread the word about the show.

It could be a pop up shopspoken word night or a social event (see below)  - we are keen to listen to any ideas you have. Its being held in Haverfordwest, Connah's Quay and Cardiff, so if you have a knowledge of any of these areas we'd welcome your help.

There's no set time commitment. What we are looking for most is people with good ideas and the ability to carry them out with support from NTW.

If you are interested, please get in touch.

TEAM Drama Workshops for Children held in Prestatyn

Anna and I of Empty Pocket Theatre were recently part of a TEAM member collaboration which generated a new creative project. We were very fortunate to have met Jan through the TEAM leadership initiative and she invited Empty Pocket Theatre to Prestatyn, North Wales to meet all of the young acting talent, some of which were fresh from the Film Awards red carpet. We were very excited to put our TEAM leadership training into action though a new outlet, and to have the opportunity to share our enthusiasm for theatre.

In Empty Pocket we are inspired by new writing and new ideas. We enjoy using improvisation in rehearsals, as it’s our experience that it generates unpredictable and productive work. Theatre is a world where anything is possible and we wanted to share that with the children in Prestatyn through encouraging their boundless imaginations. The workshops were our crash course in building characters and we went in to the room at the Scala Arts Centre not knowing where we might end up or what kinds of characters we might meet!

We ran a couple of two hour drama workshops for 8-11 and 12-15 year olds during February. First we wanted to encourage the children to try out all sorts of characters through adopting different types of physicality. There was a range of characters that emerged from posh men to evil witches to explorers. Then we gave our new characters different settings and sent them on holiday. We asked for a freeze-frame postcard for us where the children used their characters to respond to their new environment.

For the final project the children kept their character and location but advertised different crazy types of accommodation in groups. It was amazing to see the range of ideas and variety in performance when they showed back their work. We had an alien egg spaceship with two very posh slow-motion ski instructors, a shed in the jungle with its own zoo and skate park, and a haunted house which set your shoes on fire. There was a lovely contrast between one character in the haunted house who was terrified and one who was completely relaxed. We had a few evil characters which were very popular: a witch who had poisoned the gummy bears on her gingerbread house and ended up killing off all the characters, and a man with a shady past who was promoting a very dodgy bouncy castle. After asking the children about their favourite performances, we were able to discuss how and why it is engaging to watch developed characters.

At the end of the class we asked the children what they enjoyed, what they didn’t enjoy and what they would like to do in the future. We were overwhelmed when most of the children responded that they had enjoyed everything. Some of the children commented that they wished the class had been longer so that they could spend longer trying out different characters before choosing one to develop. Many of the older age category were also interested in creative writing and said they would be interested in workshops in this field as well if we came back. We were privileged enough to get to see some of one of the films a few of the children had been working on that they had written, and acted in themselves. We were very impressed with the motivation and achievements at such young ages and would love to get the chance to come back to teach more workshops in acting and also creative writing.

Overall we have learnt a lot form this experience and hope that we were able to give children an opportunity to use their imaginations and get involved in drama. Many of the children wanted to be actors and we hope that we could have played a part in igniting their interest further. It was sad to hear that recently a drama club at one of the local schools had stopped. For this workshop, we would want to spend longer trying out different characters, particularly with the younger children. In the future, we would try to cover less and take more time over one task as the children were very focused and strongly invested in the process of creating their characters and delivering great performances.

Hello Team,
I am directing/devising a show with George  Orange from tomorrow to 16th March at the Wmc and Not Fit State Circus space.
George for those who don't know him, is an amazing clown, circus performer and actor and the show is about the Moon, loneliness and ...the audience.
It will be part of Incubator the WMC emerging artists' scheme on 3rd May.

It promises to be exciting and I'd love to have an assistant director to help me through out these coming 10 days and support Georges 29th, 30th April and 1st and 2nd before the actual presentation particularly on the 3 last days when I'll be away.
I am aware that this is very last minute and you might not be able to start tomorrow but please do contact me today or as soon as if you are interested.
Talk soon

Hi everyone,

I would like to inform you of a new and exciting NTW group called One Year On.

We are a group of friends who are recalling the impact that The Passion play has had on the Port Talbot community. As The Passion enters into its one year anniversary our enthusiasm for the production hasn't dwindled. Follow our progress by visiting the 'One Year On' NTW community group, as we reminisce with the residents of Port Talbot, performers, fans and a few of the 10,000 strong audience members who witnessed The Teacher's sacrifice on Port Talbot's beachfront. Keep viewing the group as we post photos, videos and blogs of the legacy left behind by The Passion.
