Hi TEAM,

It's been a very exciting couple of weeks for both me and Lee Davies as we continue our video work for NTW20- In Water I'm Weightless. While documenting the rehearsal process we've met so many interesting members of the cast and crew and it's been fantastic to view the show's development.

Even more exciting is that me and Lee have now been given the opportunity to operate the live camera feed for the video projections that will play an integral part of the show. After coming out of university with little/no opportunities available to me, it's refreshing to be working for TEAM and National Theatre Wales on this project.

Having little knowledge of the work process involved in theatre the experience so far has been invaluable. I often feel so privileged to be able to watch Kaite O'Reilly work with Jean St Clair (sign performance expert) and Sophie Stone (performer) as they progress through the signed performances within the show. An unique experience that I'll never forget.

Here's a link to one of the videos me and Lee have created for In Water I'm Weightless:

Can't wait to see what tomorrow's rehearsals bring...

Well i've been down here in London for the past two weeks now. I've been working as a pop up artist in residency for project Phakama and it has been amazing, and very intense. I still feel my heads trying to process the majority of it. So I will let you know what I think I think at the moment.

I got on the train and met up with Brent Morgan in Swansea who was also a pop up artist, and a good friend of mine and then spent a lot more time on the train. We arrived at Queen Mary University campus around 3 though we had to walk around the campus for half an hour till we found out where we were mentioned to be. We had a brief meeting basically saying no one else had arrived yet so we'd have a more detailed meeting tomorrow.

We were then told someone could show us a good place to get some food but we decided we could find somewhere by ourselves. This resulted in a very long walk going from mile end to Stratford.

The Sundays we met the rest of the pop ups and had a evening celebrating Phakama`s fifteenth anniversary where we met people from all over the globe who had each brought different meals from their countries. It was a lovely experience but very full on. This was quite intimidating at first but the ice was soon broken and we all got along great.

The next two days were set aside for the pop up artists to work together. We started by walking around the spaces we could use and then found ideas to fit the locations. We created a performance for the each of the first two days. One of them climaxing in a pillow fight with the audience. Which for me was defiantly one of the highlights of the two weeks. Others include a powder paint fight, A workshop from Brent Morgan and hearing some very interesting speakers at mosaic.

We then spent the rest of the project devising performances but most of our days where taken up by talks and workshops. These where very impressive and very informative. Most of them seemed to surrounding the concept of climate change and art. Among my favorites where a lecture from "tipping point" and a river walk and talk down the Themes with a remarkably knowledgeable archaeologist by the name of Mike Webber.

One of the things I loved but has defiantly contributed to the business of my brain is that even in our evenings and days off there was always something to engage in be it a scratch night, film club, or even a bbq at the edible garden where we learnt to make soda bread (key is be very gentle).

Like I said I'm still recovering and getting to grips with reality right now but once I find out where I am and what's happened to me over the past two weeks I'll give a more detailed blog, but Untill then I'd like to give a massive thanks to project Phakama who have given me such a wonderful experince, the rest of my pop up artists for teaching me so much and especially Brent for keeping me sane and a big thanks to all the Polish crew who taught me so much Polish it hurts and finally a massive thanks to TEAM for enabling me to go on this wonderus experience and for all there support and continued dedication to develops me as an artist. Thanks everyone

In water I'm Weightless Get Involved!!

Hi TEAM

I am currently the Promoter for NTW20 In Water I'm Weightless which will be performed at the Wales Millennium Centre from 26th July and directed by NTW own John McGrath.

Advertising has already began, posters and flyers are going up around the city, however we need your help to make this a more than memorable one!
We are looking for people to get involved and help with PR and create new inventive ways to Market the show.  Already ideas are flying around the office but it would be great to get TEAM members input and support!

Things we will be discussing and looking at are -

  • How do we engage with the disabled community and the wider public?
  •  Stereotypes and how we break them down.
  • What is your personal struggle.

The show will be directed by NTW Creative Director John Mcgrath.

In exchange for your support in promoting IWIW you can gain backstage access to the rehearsals and watch the creative development of the piece, which for any budding Theatre Maker is an invaluable experience.

If you have any creative ideas we want to know!! Please don't hesitate to get in contact with me.

We are looking for people to start at the beginning of July, so please respond ASAP if you are interested in this opportunity.

Look forward to meeting you all!!!! Rhi
