We would like to meet someone with hip-hop/streetdance smarts. If you know someone like that please point them in this direction.

Notional Theatre is seeking strange bedfellows... Awkward Turtle Flips the Bird will be ready to tour on June 22: festivals, arts centres, museums. If you can imagine it and would like to be a part of producing it contact me direct - terry@notionaltheatre.com. Your free ticket might just come with a cup of coffee.

(… & the dictionary shall be made flesh…)

Awkward Turtle Flips The Bird

Chapter Arts in Cardiff on June 22nd 2013

Notional Theatre’s new work Awkward Turtle Flips The Bird is a unique immersive treat that invites you into the virtual pages of an imagined dictionary of gestural slang. It’s a rich audio-visual, theatrical experience. Look up or browse and you will discover a work full of love and hate, playfulness and accident, violence and outrage.  A dictionary is a bound space that uses fractured narratives to record the world: this is thought to be the first time anyone has ever attempted to stage a dictionary.

To explore the physical shapes and slangy senses of everyday random choreography Terry Victor, our artistic director, is developing a glossary of gestural slang for use as a theatrical language.

Tickets for the hour-long Awkward Turtle Flips the Bird on June 22nd are free – but strictly limited.  Performance times are 2pm, 4.30pm and 6.45pm.

A one-on-one performance installation will run intermittently from 1.30pm to 9pm.

Tickets:  +44(0)29 2030 4400

I meant to say thanks to Johnny Farrell for being the first to donate a slang gesture to this group. Awkward Turtle Flips The Bird is taking the informal language of gestures as the base-vocabulary for our adventures. If you have the time in hand please flip a gesture in this direction.

The website has been developed by Steve Purbrick. He made it look easy.

Seeking Dancers / Physical Performers / Actors

for development of a new production and installation

Awkward Turtle Flips The Bird is an exciting new work exploring gestural slang through multi-media and live performance.

Notional Theatre is holding a Workshop / Audition on 21st April (with recalls on the 22nd). We are looking for both male and female performers who have an interest / background in devising and contact improvisation to work towards a production that will showcase at Chapter Arts in Cardiff on June 22nd.

The company encourages applications from a range of backgrounds and experience; a South Wales base is preferred.

We are also looking at the possibility of offering one unpaid apprentice the opportunity of working on Awkward Turtle… - recent graduates are welcome to apply. The initial contract will be fully paid for three or four weeks’ R&D leading to a day of performances.  No expenses can be paid for the workshop and only successful applicants will be asked to attend the second day.

To apply please send your current cv and photo to casting@notionaltheatre.com

Supported by the Arts Council of Wales.
