Profile Information

What I do:
Directing, Writing and a little Performing. At the moment, I just want to expand my knowledge of all aspects of theatre and the arts.
A little more about me:
I am from Dublin but have lived in Cardiff for over three years now. I studied Drama (Theatre and Media) at the University of Glamorgan and decided to stay here for a while after graduation.
I have loved theatre and performing since I was about three years old but during university, I discovered my passion for directing. I directed two productions outside of my studies which gave me an opportunity to develop my directing skills and my creative vision. Due to the success of the second of these productions, I was asked to become assistant director for one of the large end-of-year productions, directed by one of the senior lecturers. This was an invaluable experience of the assistant director role which I found challenging but thoroughly enjoyable.
Since graduation, I have been an assistant director at Sherman Swingers and was asked to direct one of the pieces at the recent ScriptSlam event.
At present, I am hoping to find some more experience within the arts whether that be observing rehearsals, assistant directing, working in arts admin or marketing, developing independent new-writing or devised projects etc. I hope to develop a career in the arts, specifically in directing or creative development projects. At the moment, I want to absorb all the knowledge and skills that I can so that I can be better at whatever role I have in the future.
Location:
Cardiff
Projects I’m working on:
Recently observed rehearsals at ShermanCymru for their Christmas production, Peter Pan.

I hope to gain some more observing opportunities in the new year and I am thinking about directing some new piece myself.

A Letter in Support of Creativity

I composed this a while ago for a writing brief and thought some fellow NTWCommunity members and other visitors may be interested in reading it. Hopefully many productions by NTW and its members this year will become physical evidence to support my case. Enjoy!

Dear Child of the Future,

Never stop playing.

Never let someone tell you that the stories inside your head, the tales that you enact with dolls or action figures, are ridiculous. Your creation is…

Hi Aisling I am an Arts Officer in Bridgend thought you might be interested in the project below ?
Thanks

Are you aged 16 – 25? Could you create a must-read review of theatre or music? Co-ordinated by Bridgend County Borough Council’s Arts and Community Development, the Young Critics’ Scheme aims to develop and showcase the critical voices of young people and encourage them to think critically about the theatrical or musical productions they have seen.

Organised in partnership with the National Theatre of Wales and Academi, one of the National Theatre Wales’ new critics and ex-editor of Buzz magazine, Ben Bryant, will mentor and run workshop sessions to encourage participants to write and explore the role of the art critic, coming up with different ways to respond to theatre and live art including using Face Book, Vimeo and Twitter.

Throughout the coming months, the young critics will be encouraged to write a number of theatrical and musical reviews, beginning with a review of the National Theatre’s Wales production of ‘Love Steals us from Loneliness’ by Gary Owen, which will be performed in Hobos, Bridgend in October.

To get involved in this exciting new project, please call Bridgend County Borough Council’s Arts Project officer Guy O’Donnell, on (01656) 642727, or email: arts@bridgend.gov.uk.
