What I do:
Audio Describer
A little more about me:
I am a professional audio describer with skill in describing a wide range of performance types, from outdoor Shakespeare to Flamenco! As a trained actor, I am also interested in the integration of audio description into performance.

My involvement in audio description began twenty years ago at The Belgrade Theatre in Coventry. In my role as Marketing and Access Officer, I was committed to developing a greater awareness of the service and successfully helped more blind and partially sighted people enjoy live performance at the theatre.

I created the theatre's first audio season brochure and enjoyed visiting numerous blind clubs to talk about audio description, often decked out in a pantomime costume! My approach to audio description has always been centred around fostering a relationship with those people listening to me and those people working alongside me in the venue or theatre company. When I'm not audio describing, I'm pretty busy pretending to be a dinosaur with my two boys, Tom and Finn!

The requirement for at least one planned performance to be made accessible to a disabled audience offers an exciting opportunity for companies.

If you are considering audio description as a way of engaging with a wider audience, please feel free to get in touch.
