I am a dance practitioner and choreographer currently working as Dance Officer for Theatr Felinfach where my main role is to develop the Community Dance Programme - offering dance provision for people of all ages and abilities. My main field of work and interest is choreographing and directing dance work mainly with community dancers. I have experience in directing work for young people, for mixed ability groups, older dancers and those groups deemed 'at risk' such as youth offenders. I am currently researching the experience of cultural embodiment and somatics within the choreographic process and last year, received a grant from ACW to commission the choreographer Rosemary Lee to act as a mentor and witness to this research work which will carry on until the summer of 2012. Much of my practice takes place in bilingual settings and working with two languages has become a major component of my work.
A little more about me:
As well as my post as Dance Officer, I also take on commissions as an Independant choreographer and Researcher. I am about to undertake a research project with the support of Trinity Laban which will explore choreographic processes with community/untrained dancers, concentrating on somatic approaches that can enhance the individual experience.
