David Grubb is a multi-instrumentalist and composer, and alumni of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Primarily a violinist he enjoys a varied career of performing, recording, and composing, working as a freelance musician across the arts. David’s ability to bridge genres has made him a flexible and valuable player, most notably working with Novo Amor, Darren Eedens and the Slim Pickins, Toby Hay, and British Sinfonietta amongst others. He has toured internationally (North America, Europe, Asia, New Zealand, Indonesia) and performed at prestigious festivals and venues such as Union Chapel (London), Bowery Ballroom (NYC), Cambridge Folk Festival, and Reeperbahn Festival.
David’s work in theatre has seen him collaborating as composer, devisor and performer with Motherlode, Tin Shed, The Jones Collective, and RCT Theatre companies. His most recent work in Motherlode’s ‘Exodus’ received much praise: “David Grubb has composed a haunting violin score which delights.” UK Theatre Web, “Stunning composition from David Grubb.” London Pub Theatres.
As a recording artist, David’s original material, ‘High Rise’ features an eclectic mix of jazz, blues and classical, underpinned by his Scottish traditional roots. Magazine fRoots called it "A highly accomplished work that is every bit as engaging and enjoyable as the acknowledged masters” and radio station FRUK called it “an album of wondrous beauty from start to finish.” He has performed his material at Celtic Connections, Bath Folk Festival, and Bristol Folk House, and seen radio plays on BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio Scotland, BBC Radio Wales and Folk Radio UK.
