Profile Information

What I do:
A little more about me:
Fel Artist dawns annibynnol, rydw i’n ymddiddori yn y corff. Rydw i’n ystyried bod ein cyrff yn cynnig ffinau a chyfyngiadau strwythurol yn ogystal  bod yn safleoedd i gynrychioli ein hunaniaeth.

After studying at the Laban Centre, London, Gareth now resides in Cardiff, Wales where he works as a choreographer, dancer and dramaturge.

For Gareth, dance begins with the body. It is a space for the representation of identities. The body is political. He believes that the moving body can be used as a lens to rethink and reconfigure how we function on a daily basis in society.

As an artist he works in the liminal space between dance and live art, exploring the notions of autobiographical work as a catharsis, the powers of the Queer dancing body and the use of the abject in Live Art. From his research into Psychoanalysis he has come to understand that performance can unlock hidden desires and reconstruct the self.

He has worked with Doris Ulrich, Tactile Bosch, Eddie Ladd, National Theatre Wales, CommonWealth Theatre Company, Marc Rees, Luke Pell, Cai Tomos, Ema Jayne Park, Siriol Joyner, Joon Dance and Wendy Houstoun. Work has been shown in Cardiff, Swansea, London and Berlin. In May 2017 his piece Llaeth was shown at YIRRAMBOI Festival, for First Nation Art in Melbourne Australia.

January 2017 he travelled to Tel Aviv, Israel to take part in the Winter Gaga Intensive with Ohad Naharin.

In the Summer of 2017 he was awarded the DanceWeb Scholarship.Which saw him attend ImpluzTanz in Vienna, where he studied under Doris Ulrich, Ivo Dimchev Keith Hennessy, Eroca Nichols, Libby Farr, Risa Steinberg ,Salim Gauwloos and Guy Cools.
Projects I’m working on:
Currently writing and reviewing for online Dance publication Bellyflop and teaching dance technique and improvisation in London.

Gareth Chambers DanceWeb Go Fund Me

I'm going to Vienna in July 2017 for a five-week intensive development program for young professional dancers and choreographers. DanceWEB is part the annual ImPulzTanz International Festival of contemporary dance.

This is an immense honor and opportunity for me; I am the first dance artist from Wales to  be selected from a global applicant pool of 958 dancers from 58 countries and one of two artists from the UK.  So it is a big deal for me!…
