Profile Information

What I do:
Visual thinker, designer, illustrator, film maker and interactive artist.
A little more about me:
I live in Cardiff with my wife and a cat named Mord. I like to draw, take photos, project video and occasionally I get to play my favourite records at a local cocktail bar (Milgi). I'm involved (as a punter) in the Cardiff arts scene and always have a healthy variety of projects on the boil. After studying fine art - specialising in performance and time based media at degree level I became interested in graphic design and interactive media. Having worked as a 'designer' for a number years both freelance and as a senior designer and manager at a small design studio taking web and digital projects from concept to final delivery, my passions now lie in a wider, less typically commercial arena involving illustration, video installation, sonic art, graphics and trans-media performance.
Location:
Cardiff
Projects I’m working on:
Over the past few years I've been working with a handful of welsh bands, Gulp, Trwbador and Fist of the First Man, providing video projections for their live shows - creating and mixing video and generated imagery live and in direct response to the performance. Each band has a particular look and visual style and we've performed together at the greenman festival, and Glastonbury last year and was fortunate to travel and perform with Gulp at this years SXSW music showcase in Austin, Texas.

Having the freedom to flex my creative muscle with music and artists that genuinely excites me has been incredibly stimulating and fulfilling. Recent design projects with Trwbador and Gulp include the creation of album and single artwork as well as music videos.

My interest in live video work has also realised itself in a recent collaborative project last year with symphonia Cymru and composer Tom Raybould as part of a drive to engage new classical audiences. We developed a show in which a septet of strings musicians triggered generative imagery onto projection mapped staging by playing their midi connected instruments. Each piece of the concert had a different set of visuals that were then in part mixed and triggered live.

I’ve been performing with experiemental sound, midi and video set ups for a number of years, as part of the sound art collective ’S.A.A.B’ with members Richard Bowers and Ian Watson. We’ve performed together at festivals and events around the country including the Sonic Arts Network festival and Experimentica in Cardiff.

I always have on me a camera and my sketchbook, and I use these to document compositions and thoughts on a daily basis. Over the last few years, I’ve taken to drawing at gigs, concerts and events where a photograph just won’t cut it or is inappropriate. These drawings form an ongoing collection of illustrations and doodles that I’ve created for dozens of bands and shows including festivals, one off gigs and even Praxis Makes Perfect last year.
my illustrations can be seen at my tumblr: http://chameleonic.tumblr.com/

I also get to work on illustration projects that come into the studio, most recently creating an illustration and accompanying poster for Dirty Protest theatre’s production of parallel lines and artwork for the seasonal Sherman Theatre brochure.
