Toks Dada is a creative producer and arts entrepreneur; founder, CEO and Creative Director of Sinfonia Newydd, Non-Executive Board Director at Sinfonia Cymru, and Executive Chair at REPCo.
In 2014 he became the first producer to participate in National Theatre Wales (NTW)’s Emerging Producers initiative, producing R.A.T.S. as part of WalesLab – NTW’s artist development initiative. He also became one of the first producers of St. David’s Hall’s International Concert Series Extras programme, producing the inaugural strand of Pre-Concert Talks and Post-Concert Events.
In February 2010, Toks founded Sinfonia Newydd – a commissioning and producing company for new work by emerging composers. Under his creative and executive leadership, the company has provided commission, training, performance, and promotion opportunities for over 40 emerging composers through collaborations with other arts companies including Artes Mundi, the National Museum Wales, National Dance Company Wales, and Nonclassical. In February 2014, the company collaborated with contemporary classical composer/DJ Gabriel Prokofiev and percussionist Joby Burgess, producing the Welsh premiere of Gabriel’s Concerto for Bass Drum & Orchestra, alongside work by emerging composers.
In July 2012, he became a Board Director at Sinfonia Cymru – Wales’ professional chamber orchestra, holding an integral role in the development of Sinfonia Cymru Curate – the orchestra’s creative hub of young people. In October 2013, Toks was appointed as the Chair of REPCo – a Welsh Government funded youth arts enterprise initiative, having previously been a founding Board Director from September 2010. As Chair, he oversees a £16,000 annual budget, responsible for the delivery of funding, advice, and project management support to youth arts projects.
Toks’ entrepreneurial work with young people in the performing arts has also generated and earned him the support of other professional musicians and producers such as Rosie Biss (Principal Cello, Welsh National Opera), and Deborah Perkin (Senior Producer, BBC). With Deborah he produced the Mega Messiah 2011, a large scale public access project that raised over £10,000 for the Prince’s Trust and Fairbridge.
In July 2013, Toks completed an undergraduate degree in viola performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and, following the award of an inaugural Prince of Wales scholarship, is continuing his studies at the College, on a part-time basis, under the Masters in Arts Management programme.
