What I do:
Theatre Director
A little more about me:
Hi I’m Abdul - dad, son, brother, West Ham fan & theatre director. I run a theatre company called Fio www.wearefio.co.uk
based in Cardiff but working across the UK and further afield.
I moved to Cardiff and Wales to work for NTW as Creative Associate in 2011. Before that, in London, I freelanced for a variety of different companies ranging from grassroots community-led organisations to larger national and regional companies.

I also set up a theatre company which has specialised in working with young people and communities since its inception in 2005. The company has delivered numerous projects and also started to create professional film and theatre productions.

My passion for theatre derives from the fact that it had such a profound and significant positive impact on my life. I initially came into the industry through vocational and practical routes - i.e. Youth Theatre and on the job experience, however since have attained a BA Hons in International Theatre Studies at the University of East London and also have a 3rd of an MA for a Teacher Artists Partnership Programme with London Institute of Education. I am also a Clore Fellow having done the year-long programme in 2013-2014.
Location:
Cardiff
Projects I’m working on:
Various Fio projects including 'Project Fio', Fio Participatory Artists Training Programme and various other things.

I am also working on a couple of smaller projects for other companies.

Finally I am trying to start an international theatre festival here in Wales!

The Island

Having emerged from a rehearsal process which has been amazing, provocative and at times difficult.  We now have a great show which needs to be seen by as many people as possible across Wales and beyond. Our opening night had a powerful response in rural Mid Wales and our sellout show in Newport needed extra seats.  The show left people speechless and in tears on both occasions.  Friends in Wales, Manchester and further afield, come and see The…
