Profile Information

What I do:
I am a director of theatre and opera based in Cardiff. I work for WNO as their Genesis Assitant Director, and I am co-founder of Barefoot Opera
A little more about me:
My work is very collaborative and ensemble led. It's also very physical - informed by Viewpoints / Grotowski and Le Coq training methods. I have learned these methods along the way through training workshops with Piesn Kozla, associate directing and devising with Le Mot Juste Theatre and a long "stage" at the Theatre du Soleil in Paris. Recently my love of Polish theatre has been rekindled by working with the excellent and inspiring director Mariusz Trelinski on Boulevard Solitude. Also...I love walking, dancing, cooking and gardening. I like to push myself and my family to the limit on epic physical quests...
Location:
Cardiff
Projects I’m working on:
Mr Punch and Me – an exploration of the personality of Mr Punch combining devised theatre and fragments of Birtwhistle’s Punch and Judy (RWCMD)

Bel Canto Adventures - an interactive performance for children based on the legends of William Tell and Moses and the Israelites (collaboration with playwright Alan Harris for WNO Youth and Community)

Alcina's Island - a new opera for 2015, which will be performed in Hastings and Cardiff in partnership with community centres, incorporating devised theatre and contemporary music, with stories told in several langauges. To hear some of the new composition check out barefootopera.com

Unheard Voices - CREW

In the middle of rehearsals for Unheard Voices - CREW which opens next week at the WMC in a WNO rehearsal studio.

It's been an incredibly challenging week working with 4 stagehands on developing theatrical languages which articulate what the world of opera performance is like from their perspective. So many hidden talents are emerging! We are blending mime, standup, and storytelling with set building and technical language to create a really unique show. Next week we gain a 5th…
