Call for proposals for Assembly 1 - South Wales

National Theatre Wales are currently accepting submissions for ideas for our new ‘Assembly’ projects.

The new ‘Assembly’ is developing into democratically elected projects to be delivered across the breadth & width of Wales.

The process requires local people, companies & groups to suggest project ideas, from which three will be shortlisted.  The shortlisted ideas will then go through a two week online public voting period, the idea to receive the most votes will then be…

HELP!

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a magazine, or mailout, or some kind of publication that will keep me a little more involved in (South) Wales Theatre/Arts.

My eyes ache from viewing the neon glow of my laptop screen and my finger tips are flattening due to tappy tap tapping. I fancy returning to ye olden days of yore.

Any links, suggestions or advice welcome.

Dial 419 team meets Duncan Ballantyne

Just back from the first stint of project development for Dial 419 at Cardiff Airport. The best part of the weekend was listening to stories from Reverend Duncan Ballantyne, who runs the chaplaincy at the airport. We’re hoping that Duncan will agree to a cameo role in the performance.

For the next stage of our Wales Lab project we will be creating a score for Dial 419 and recruiting NTW Team members to help us to test the audience experience.

located or camping?

As Mike and I simultaneously turn up the heat on our Coriolanus process with the new year, trading thoughts over distance for little while longer, it seems that we have reached that familiar turning point where we both start re-asking the hard and big questions - but this time in order to really answer them.

It is a turning point that I always enjoy. The chance to challenge my assumptions, sweep away the debris and start to nail some things down. And then we can really start…

The Echo Chamber - first week of rehearsals: Text and physical structures

Nearing the end of my first rehearsal week making The Echo Chamber with The Llanarth Group - Peader Kirk, Phillip Zarrilli and Ian Morgan. I've posted a blog on text and physical structures when working with practitioners who can count training in Kerala in Kathakali dance theatre and Kalarippayyttu, in Paris with Monika Pagneux, and in Italy with Grotowski at his Workcenter between them. To read the post, go to:…

Mzansi Cymru: Torchbearers FLASH MOB

On 3rd December 2011 unsuspecting Christmas shoppers got a big surprise at the Wales Millennium Centre. Over 70 people spontaneously burst into song and dance in this awesome Flash Mob, choreographed by Natalie Spiteri, marking the dates of performances for the Torchbearers - Mzansi Cymru (coming to the Donald Gordon Theatre in July 2012).

This is a must see!…

The mental invasion of the New Yorkers - Improv Comedy Workshop (January 22nd)

Happy New Year people!

On Sunday 22nd January 2012, wow, 2012... Ludus Ludius are holding a beginners improv comedy workshop.

The day will be suitable for actors and those in search of the improvised wonders. Even further it's for those that have seen any material from UBC in New York. The nerdiness that has been recently a regular occurrence means that this event shall be special one-off exploration of sketch-based improv. Discovering the tremendous joys…

Here is a link to a production I documented last summer for Urban Ink Canada and Alajotas Dance Nigeria, they looked at/utilised a pioneering drama/life technique about first legacy e.g. where we come from (past ancestors) influences who we are today/ & as performers/practitioners

Casting breakdown for Spring Tour 2012

Fragments of Ash

(Stage/tour)

Notional Theatre is looking for a company of wonderfully talented South Wales-based actors who are comfortable with both physical and narrative storytelling for the tour of Fragments of Ash. The play, described as “spine-tingling and intense” (Three Weeks) was first produced, to universally excellent reviews, at the 2011 Edinburgh Fringe. This tour is supported by the Arts Council of Wales.

A company wage reflects…

Dial 419 for Love

Thanks to Wales Lab, over the next few months I’m going to be developing a new piece of work called “Dial 419 for Love”. The idea is to create a multiplatform drama inviting participants to explore the world of romance scammers and their love victims.

The project is starting this weekend with a visit to Cardiff airport with my collaborators Kelly Jones, John Norton Sule Rimi and Peter Petralia. Most of the team members are from Cardiff and Peter (who is the Artistic Director of…

Cinderella Porthcawl

Hi,

Just finished Panto, playing Ugly Sister and we had a blast. What a great cast and tech crew. Wish it was a longer run. Imagine Theatre are the providers and the quality and standard of the show for a professional Panto are very high. I watched it the year before and loved it then as well (Jack and the Beanstalk)......If your thinking of being local and love panto and are a pro, then contact Imagine for an Audition. …

Barry bus developments

Yesterday was our last Wales Lab day and Joanna, Ollie and I were joined by Alan Harris. It was really useful to have a fresh pair of eyes view the material created so far and chat about ways forward. Big thanks to Wales Lab and all the collaborators who have been involved in developing the work. It's been a treat to explore how this project might work and take time to figure out the best way to turn an inital idea into exciting theatre. The plan now is to work with Alan on developing the…

The search for an ensemble for 'A Provincial Life' NTW17 continues...

We have extended applications for this great opportunity to get involved with NTW's next production.

As the Emerging Director on NTW’s next production, I have the wonderful task of finding an ensemble of twelve people who would like to step into Chekhov’s world in the 1890’s.…

The Echo Chamber with The Llanarth Group

2012 is promising to be a full-on year for me, with several productions - all using different processes, creative teams and aesthetics. In anticipation of what I may learn or discover about practice, I started a blog back in 2011, realising that unless I gave myself a task and external focus, those reflections might remain buried and unexpressed. I suppose this is a writerly version of the EM Forster's 'How do I know what I think until I hear what I say?'

I've just begun rehearsals…
