Hello everyone! This is a little essay/story I wrote about when I first got excited about live performance, and what I am excited about today as a member of TEAM panel (is it sposed to be capitalised?? who knows!).
THE SHEEP was torn in half in front of us. It happened in a school playground on a hot night in summer – but the playground was also a Cornish fishing town, a courtroom, a valley, a mountainside, a…

As part of my Artist* of the Day we looked to get hands-on and collaborate in the creation of a large-scale typographic illustration. Using the poetry of Hassan Panero and referencing traditional Somali hand-painted signage – the artwork looked to promote the culture, spirit and community engagement that is a key element of #NTW23 De Gabay. Painted live in the National Theatre Wales Castle Arcade 'shop-window' throughout the day……

I hate to use this awful phrase, but these past few months have been crazy.
As an active member of the Young Critics scheme, I somehow found myself on the panel for the upcoming (and first ever) Theatre Critics Of Wales Awards. I've been reviewing for some time, but being a sort of judge for theatre in Wales was certainly challenging. I suppose the inferiority complex was inevitable; sat in a room with renowned critics discussing why I though a specific piece of theatre deserved the…

Last Sunday Ascendance braved the weather to assemble in the Wales Millenium Centre to perform an hour long variety show as part of their Make It Yours programme.
Our dress rehearsal on Saturday was missing at least half the cast due to being snowed in and unable to travel- The staff walked in and I'm incredibly grateful for their dedication! We were expecting chaos on the Sunday, and this was confirmed when messages came flooding in in the morning with performers still unable to…

In keeping with the start of a new year and resolutions galore, I'm pleased to be seeing my diary fill up with chances to meet up with people and see more live work.
The dying days of 2012 held treats in the form of Out Of The Blue by Theatr Iolo and A Curious Zoo by Caroline Sabin, Deborah Light and others. But 2013 has started with a cultural bang. In addition to starting to learn Welsh,…

Last week, I was lucky enough to be sent off to Berlin to meet documentary theatre Director Hans-Werner Kroesinger, and watch his new play, Failed States One: Somalia. This is the first in the series of Failed States with Hebbel Am Ufer.
I met Hans-Werner in the café of HAU1 after a mad dash from the airport and an extremely expensive taxi ride; it was safe to say I stuck to the tube after this. It was really interesting to find out more about his work on Somalia in…
