It's a series of 36 initial totally improvised performances in odd and unique locations in Swansea and Cardiff taking place in May and June of this year. I'm currently in research and development stages and will be going into 'rehearsals' (how do you rehearse a…

Serious Money - Development

It all starts here! Well, it’s been a while in the planning but now we can get stuck into creating this admittedly ambitious project.

It all started about 9 months ago, during a very rare clear up of my bookshelf I re-discovered a whole batch of plays that I had studied during my university days. One of which was Churchill’s Serious Money. I remembered reading it years ago and recalled how I struggled to connect with it. I remember arguing that the play represented no more than a…

The Life of Riley

Making its stop finally at the Royal Theatre in Bath, is Alan Aycklam’s highly anticipated 74th production The Life of Riley. Though lacking the life it truly needed to win over audiences, this is a play that breaths an honest view on the devastating effects that time has on our lives.

Aycklam tells the story of the man George Riley, an unfortunate character who is struck down by the news that one, he has cancer and two, that he has only months to live.…

Great Opportunity for a Director

DIRECTOR REQUIRED FOR UNUSUAL STAGE SCHOOL

Disability Arts Cymru has been running the Unusual Stage School since 2006. All the company members have either a physical or sensory impairment, a learning disability or are people with mental health issues, and are drawn from across Wales. The company does not meet on a regular basis but when an opportunity arises. For example the USS has performed at the Unity Festival at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff for the last two… Continue

Review of WNO's Die Fledermaus by Young Critic!

Die Fledermaus

As a young critic I am an avid theatre goer but Opera? It has never evoked enthusiasm or excitement for me and stereotypes abounded: looking at it with untrained eyes and ears it felt a tad out of reach. Then ... The opportunity to see Welsh National Opera’s newest rendition of Die Fledermaus landed in my email, and never one to snub being proved wrong, I saw an intriguing…

more dreams and realities at the Scala

Every week Ffilm Scala goes from strength-to-strength - there's a regular group of young people coming into the Creative Surgeries with amazing enthusiasm and ideas - they can whip out a storyboard or two in the first hour and have usually rehearsed a rough outline and assigned roles in the second. We've had the immense good fortune to have Ryan Hall who's committed to coming every week until he starts his new job in the film world (I'm hoping to get him to join the NTW Community so that…

Young Critic's response to WNO's Die Fledermaus

Die Fledermaus

Welsh National Opera

Dates: 12th Feb to 5th March

Reviewed by Chelsey Gillard

Opera can seem quite daunting to those not educated in classical music or theatre but this production of Die Fledermaus was completely accessible to even the most ignorant theatre goer (like me). The farcical tale of an elaborate get-back prank was filled…
