The choice of first show for a brand new national theatre company is necessarily a political one. For a non-building based company like National Theatre Wales, the venue also assumes extra
significance. With an opening performance called A Good Night Out In The
Valleys touring miners’ institutes and workmens’ halls, Artistic Director John
E McGrath has very deliberately planted the National Theatre flag in…

A weird kind of lethargy has been overtaking me recently. These last two days at least. Something to do with nights becoming confused with days and the lots and lots of travelling during the last two weeks. There is more to come next week. I will be going to Gregynog near Newtown for a University conference. I am going to speak for 5 minutes about the project. What to say?!?! And on Thurday Carl and I are going to go the…

Poppy and I swam again today. We accidentally crashed a children's birthday party in the pool. I think we both realised after about half an hour and chose not to share the information with one another for fear that one or the other might make us leave and swim in the colder water of the Plas Crug main pool. We bought chocolate chip muffins and made a mushroom soup. The days are now much brighter and sharper and the…

It was great to go and see 'A Good Night Out' last night in Pontardawe. Having been involved in the rehearsal process, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the end product in all its warm & tender glory, - it brought a tear to my eye and gave me belly laughs by turn. I was very impressed by the extra dimensions brought by the superb audio visuals, Mike Beers sound design, the great band (see you in the Uplands boys), and by Boyds beige budgie smugglers... Nice to see some of my own bits and bobs…

While all you clever National Theatre people have been slogging to get your first production out (what a night!) and others on the way, we've been racing insanely round Swansea to set up a new project for young people.
We're busy recruiting staff to start working with us in April, to bring together different ways of working with drama and theatre, with young people aged 16 in Swansea.
We start rolling out workshops in June on the Swansea University campus - and…

Well it started for us via an email asking do we wanna be the band in a play put on in blackwood stute, Hell yeah why not!
Thinking we would just be jammin' some of our "random.com" covers in the backround, EASY init.
Not as easy as we thought, Dan the man who was the dude sorting out all the sound tracks gave us some music to learn and just form the sight of SHEETS OF MUSIC we Bricked it!
After Having A chat, a Pep Talk and a Stiff drink with Dan We became…

It turns out that the reason that we didn't meet up with Karl yesterday was because he fell down the side of the Wawel and got run over by a passing car. He is ok...
The following entry is a record of a visit to the Oriel Davies gallery in Newtown. I travelled with Tina and…

We lost Karl at the Wawel. He ran ahead to set up the crowning shot of his film and we didn't see him again. We were only moments behind him. We searched the Wawel and in the end we had to jump in a taxi and head to the airport. Hopefully he didn't wait too long. It feels like the fitting end to a film. A metaphor for his struggle to save Krakow.…
