MUSICIAN (acoustic guitar player is necessary) needed for R&D Project

Hello to all musicians,

I'm in need of a musician who is available for a few dates in April/May for this exciting R&D Project, working alongside some great professionals (possible paid work, depending on funding). You must be able to play an acoustic guitar, as this is key for tone of performance.

If you're interested, and want to know more about the project send me an email to elganrhys@gmail.com

Cheers

Elgan

The Ballad of Ivor Jones, WalesLab 2014, blog post 4 - Lost lands, ghostly bells and children's voices..

I first heard them years ago

When, careless and light-hearted,

I thought not of coming woe,

Nor of bright days departed;

Now those hours are past and gone

When the strife of life is done,

Peace is found in heaven alone,

Say the bells of Aberdovey.

Clychau Aberdyfi/ The Bells of Aberdovey is a traditional song which refers to the village of Aberdyfi/ Aberdovey in Gwynedd, at the mouth of the River Dyfi on Cardigan Bay. The song is…

Almost there

Its a strange thing, but for me visiting the UK is coming home. Though I was born in Canada my time there was brief and by around a year old I was on a ship to England where I lived for 28 years. And then, I ''returned '' to Canada. So my journey has echoes of the British Home child story-distorted- but perhaps with the same results............. I have two ''homes'', and a connection with journey and water that has stayed with me forever.

Everyman Theatre's "Our Town" - Chapter Arts Centre from 11 to 15 March - Cast replacement required

Hi!

CASTING ISSUE – EVERYMAN THEATRE’S “OUR TOWN” – CHAPTER ARTS CENTRE; TUIESDAY 11 TO SATURDAY 15 MARCH 2014.

One of the young people in the cast of “Our Town” has just fractured his leg, so will be unable to participate in the production. Just recently, in the light of other potential issues, I have tried - through various avenues - to recruit young people for roles with no success. This includes the whole of Everyman Youth Theatre, asking…

Some thoughts on the war being waged on new writing in the UK.

There is a war being waged on new writing in the UK.

The latest casualty is BBC Three.

Today, the BBC announced plans to close the television channel BBC Three. A cost-cutting exercise. Some of the BBC Three budget will be put into BBC One. But BBC One…

World Book Day: NTW TEAM Merthyr

Hey All

Happy world book day! Today myself and TEAM member Elgan Rhys went to the rainy Merthyr Tydfil to lead some World Book Day workshops. We did three workshops with three very different schools from all over Merthyr in the beautiful St Tydfil's church. The workshop was aimed at bringing the children's favourite book characters to life through a series of character and storytelling exercises. We arrived there this morning to be impressed with the days programming all organised by…

Countdown to My Real Mother project

For months now I've been thinking about questions like Are we real? Is there a part of us that is more real than the rest? A kind of true self? Although I don't think there is, the questions still intrigue me.

And then I've also been thinking about familiarity and what does it mean when something is familiar to us, and even more so, what does it DO to the person, object, place we are familiar with, when we say 'I know that'.

Over Christmas I read Anam…

Not A Thing Out Of Place

A short Radio Play made by the New Arrivals TEAM last year, with Radio Cardiff, WMC and Inch Studios. Big thanks to David John Evans for help and guidance and introductions.

It is adapted from a text by Egyptian playwright Tawfiq Al Hakim, a giant of modern Arabic literature, who, it seems, is barely known in the UK. We made this last year with a joyous and diverse group of individuals.…

Call for Playwrights in Wales --- Help me turn Hettie's Life Story into a Story also of Our Time

There are a lot of women in Wales who inspire me. One in particular I wrote about for international women's day last year. Here name is  Hester (‘Hettie’) Millicent Mackenzie (nee hughes) and she was the first female professor appointed in the UK. The year was 1904, and she was appointed as a Professor of Education at Cardiff University.

For International Women's Day in 2013, I was approached by…
