Day 39 - In a rock pool - Aberystwyth

The sun shone brightly today and as I spent most of the Easter weekend working I decided to spend the day with my daughter Poppy. Without a strict structured schedule I am finding that I could easily spend all my time working without a break.

We took her bright pink fishing net and searched for crabs in the rock pools. We found none so we settled for catching a white stone instead. I then took her for sausage and chips at the fish bar at the top of town and popped…

Day 38 - The Back of the Pier - Aberystwyth

Today I stood thirty feet above the waves and looked out to sea from the tail end of the pier in Aberystwyth. I walked like a very old man and lowered my centre of gravity to prevent myself from falling into the abyss. The abyss was a good ten feet away over a metal railing but all the same I thinlk it is better to be safe than sorry.
Today was also the day that i attended a philosophy reading group at the Orangery. Today was a day of cafes and dinners out. Conversations and personal…

Spam on National Theatre Wales Community

Some of you may have noticed a recent spate of spam blog posts here on the community site. This is a common problem with open social networks, as anyone can join, and spammers are looking for cheap link hits for their products from high value websites.

We are dealing with it by instantly suspending the members when they join/post, deleting their content and reporting them as spammers to Ning, who run the software that powers this website.

The time it takes us to delete a… Continue

Gwion and the Witch adventurers to North Wales!

Hello folks,

Well it has been an intense and busy week! We've told our story in an Iron works, an abbey, and several castles, in the rain, sleet and snow, thunder and lighting, gale force winds and the odd sunshine. Despite the arduous weather it has been rather beautiful. I have a new found appreciation for the country side and history. Im an thouroughly enjoying this tour around wales and have seen some amazing places. It seems my enjoyment is emulated by our varied…

legendary "Ham & Jam" (Thurs 15 April)

"Ham & Jam" is an experimental poetic playlet for 2 voices, based on "Hamlet". "Ham & Jam" has been performed occasionally before -- it's legendary among performance poets -- but never published. Till now.

The author, Childe Roland (a.k.a. Peter Meilleur), is a celebrated experimental concrete performance poet. Originally from Canada, he's lived since the 1970s in Llangollen.

In "Ham & Jam" and its sequel, "A Pearl", 'mad'? Polonius quizzes 'mad'? Hamlet. Their… Continue

BBC writersroom

Hello, for those interested in submitting to the BBC, the writersroom has a good resource for example scripts. My piece, The Gold Farmer, has just been added but there's lots of scripts on here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/writersroom/insight/radio_drama.shtml

For writers it's a useful, free resource.

Hitting a Stride

It's Friday morning and I'm on the train to Swansea. Shelf Life, aka NTW02, is in the middle of tech rehearsals and I'm planning a morning of sitting at the back of Swansea library being supportive. Last night the introduction to the show was being worked on - the WNO 'choir of librarians' outside the brick hulk of the library, sporting red umbrellas and singing in the rain. They are going to be wonderful. Peter Swaffer Reynolds' music weaves us into the world of the play with lyricism, humour… Continue
