18.55. I was chatting to Simon Coates, dweller in the caban in the garden, thinking it was 1800hrs, that I really should go and get changed, wondering why people seemed to be turning up so early ... the danger of a stopped clock. Simon gently pointed out that it was in fact 18.55. I dashed home, changed, ran up to meet the guests at the barn car park. Time has a funny way of…

On May 20th, in Anthemion Auctions in Cardiff, we are auctioning an Andrew Vicari portrait of Dylan Thomas to raise funds for the company. The Neath-born artist donated the portrait to us with the sole purpose of raising funds to help us stage 'Aberystwyth Mon Amour'. Vicari met Thomas often in his early years in art college in London and says that he has become 'bsessed with him over the last few years'. This article says a great deal about the artist's obsession.…

I'm so excited to be working as a promoter for Mother Courage and Her Children. I was excited before I saw a rehearsal because I love Brecht (he's such a dude and he, like, totally gets me) but today I went along to rehearsals and it made me so happy.
I've always loved watching rehearsals - it's so awesome to see a show coming together, all the different ideas and themes and characters growing and interweaving to make something special and coherent.
This show…

What does a mother need to do to survive in this day and age?!!!! The answer... draw blood from a stone. I am about to bust a vein, crunching numbers and calculating how many hours of my precious time is taken up, earning money to pay the rent, rates and other essentials [fibre optic broadband] of my new house to be. I have just been offered a salary job of £18000 a year, but upon frugally assessing the finances, I find I cannot afford it! I need a second job. Not only have I a 2 year old to…

All our ideas on little notes. Too much, much too, too much.
We knew it, really. But wanted to try. Put it into a structure.
It’s R&D after all (hold that thought)
Typed it up.
Did stagger through. We gave it a good shot, some flowed, some was beautiful, we missed the guests, we giggled and relaxed, held it…

Firstly I need to state how incredible it is to be in rehearsals with so many fabulous women. It's a very female team and the men are hideously outnumbered but John and Daf are doing their very best to embrace their inner Shirleys.
Not only do we have a cast of nine actresses, the production ladies include our designer, assistant designer, wardrobe supervisor, wardrobe assistant, emerging director, movement director, lighting designer, company manager, assistant stage manager and…

In the design of systems it is often what we cannot see that is the most valuable. In our emotional design as people it is the trillions of molecules that inform our feelings about who we connect to and why. In the design of our workplaces and social gatherings it is the air of culture that floats around us forged through our…

Just found a really inspiring film about Dinorwig Slate Quarries by Jason Jones - here is the link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enUeHEipHt4
There is some really good archive footage of quarrymen working which reveals the precision, danger and arduousness of their labour. There are also some interviews with retired quarrymen which reveals the sense of community felt by the workers…
