Under the Hooves of Horses: Waleslab

A quick post to share a week in June, when WalesLab supported me to start work on a new show (Under the Hooves of Horses) with two brilliant theatre-makers, and long-time friends and collaborators, Lucy Ellinson and Yael Shavit.

We worked in the excellent, bright rehearsal rooms of Y Galleri. We built and then re-built versions of the show on reams of flip-chart paper, we tried things, watched things, and shared research. Sometimes debates spilled out of the rehearsal room,…

3 Years of Scratching!

It has been 3 years.

Ye I know it took me by surprise but it really has been 3 YEARS!

We have been Scratching That Itch for 3 Years, I'm not certain but I think that makes us the longest running Scratch night in Wales.

Well done us.

What is also truly amazing is the constant flow of new faces. Even after 3 years we have people sharing work at Scratch for the first time and the quality never fails to amaze me.

Some of…

Lovely Lovely Latitude!!

After a completely bonkers 6 days I have only one word to describe Latitude... AMAZING!!!!

As a frequent festival goer it was my first experience at Latitude and it did not disappoint.  The festival is so much more than a music festival.  It has everything from screen printing your own t-shirts to a green peace outdoor climbing adventure park (though I think that may have been for the kids)

Anyway.. the real reason we were at the festival was not to have free…

No, i’m not talking about the new little royal but about me. I'm coming to the end of my first three months as Creative Associate for WalesLab at NTW and i thought it would be a good idea to quickly check-in and take stock.

Since I started I have been involved in so many a wondrous thing but biggest and bestest of all has to be Summercamp on Ynys Mon. Two weeks with Matt…

A Walk Down Memory Lane

Just over a month ago I started running a series of workshops in Bleangarw on behalf of NTW. It was great to be asked having been involved in the companies inaugural production “A Good Night Out In The Valleys”, Bleangarw was one of the venues where we rehearsed, developed and performed the piece and the community’s input was invaluable.

I had a strange sense of nostalgia driving up the Garw valley, stopping for a cup of tea in Creation…

You can explore these topics and more at World Stage Design 2013 with a 2 day workshop - The Intimate and the Epic:

This two day symposium and workshop …

Taking new writing to the USA

I'm writing to you from the Capital Fringe Festival, Washington DC. It's been an eventful week here at the Capital Fringe; mounting a new production, interviews, workshops and seeing plenty of shows. The beauty of this festival is the eclectic mix of performers and shows - I've seen a one man performance from a local binman to a 25-strong Gospel rendition of the Nativity with leather-bound Satans. Somewhere in the middle of this is the play I've brought over, Marsha. It's a one-woman show,…

Caerphilly Tonypandemonium workshop

I had a great day today exploring Tonypandemonium with Sean, Tony and Hayley who are part of an insertion programme by Peer Mentoring Wales and Employment Support Service in Caerphilly.

None of my small group had- apparently-done any theatre but they were amazing and surprised themselves with their capacity to improvise and invent amazing lies, Sean became one of the character of the play with endless stories, Tony the…
