Picturebooks, clowns and brain dissection... just another day in Edinburgh

Any day that begins with a special, personalised performance of a delightful children's tale is already set to be spectacular. And this is what we had on Monday as we popped along to The Incredible Book Eating Boy ★★★★. Although billed as kid's theatre, this…

NTW #TEAM_ed day 4

Soooo I'm coming towards the end of my time in Edinburgh but after days like today you don't want your trip to end.

I started the day with Bootworks 'The incredible book eating boy' which I must say I think is the perfect way to start your day in Edinburgh. The show is a children's show that last about 5 mins it can only be viewed one at a time unless your a parent and child in which case you are both allowed in. This show is a real treat combining mask work puppetry and…

Bandwagon Theatre: Our Edinburgh Fringe (Day 6)

Ok, so I spent all year waiting for our time in Edinburgh to arrive and it's day 6 already. I suppose they do say 'time flies when you're having fun'.

'Having fun' being the operative words there - today I surcomed to some comedy and definitely made a wise choice by seeing Milton Jones in his stand up show 'Lion Whisperer'. Entertaining, funny and without too much swearing or naughty stuff. Right up my street.

Now I'm sure I should probably tell you about how our show went today… Continue

Winning BBC Rapid Response "Hackgate" script

I submitted a short script to the BBC Writersroom competition which asked for Rapid Response pieces inspired by the phone-hacking scandal. It was deemed to be one of the top 3, and is now available to read if you follow the link. Enjoy!

Puberty, fishnets and princes... just another day in Edinburgh

I should tell you straight away: I'm not a fan of musicals. However, there is something very alluring about Spring Awakening - something that moves far, far away from jazz hands, chihuahuas and black canes. Telling the tale of a group of adolescences struggling to gain knowledge of their sexualities and their worlds, the piece is a dark and appealing fable about growing up and knowledge. In Gordonstoun School's…

NTW #TEAM_ed day 3

Sooo it's 3.18 in the morning and I'm sitting down to blog.

Today I was feeling nakered all the walking and dancing of yesterday had tired me out (staying up until 4 in the morning editing video together didn't help). So I had a bit of a late start to the day. @ameliaforsbrook had already left to catch a show when I left the house. I planned to go and see the incredible book eating boy however when I got to the box office I discovered I had just missed there last show of the…

Bandwagon Theatre: Our Edinburgh Fringe (Day 5)

Today brought tears, laughter and entertainment as we caught some of the other shows that are on offer at our venue. For anyone who's performing at Greenside venue 231 or thinking of doing so in the future, they offer a great deal that means performing companies pay £2.50 for a wrist band which allows you instant access to any performance that goes on in there. I think this is a big plus as money is inevitably quite tight and the price of shows can quickly add up.

With a good variety of… Continue

NTW #TEAM_ed day 2

Sooo day 2 done and another 4 shows under the belt.

We started with our first show at 12.30 across the other side of Edinburgh. A really enjoyable half an hour show by Bandwagon called 'Rotten Little story'. Then we stopped for lunch.

After lunch we trekked across town to our next show of the day 'Hedda Gabler' by Palindrome Theatre Company. I really enjoyed this piece, it's not the sort of thing that I would pick to watch myself but the story telling was strong as…

Corruption, manipulation and death... just another day in Edinburgh

With a busy day ahead of us, Mr Morgan and I decided to warm ourselves up with a thirty-minute production by south Wales based Bandwagon Theatre Company at Greenside. A Rotten Little Story ★★★ exposes the corruption of the British Government as they acquired Diego Garcia for the US…

Bandwagon Theatre: Our Edinburgh Fringe (Day 4)

It's safe to say that we've fallen into our fringe routine very nicely. I think every theatre company can appreciate that when you've got an effective team, everything just seems to slot into place. The set now goes up with hardly a word spoken between the lot of us, everyone has their job and merrily gets on with doing it. Show time. The set then comes down swiftly and within minutes, you'd never have known that we'd even been there.

Not such a large audience today as there was yesterday,… Continue

NTW #TEAM_ed

Soooooooo hear I am in Edinburgh.

I am about 12 hours behind on this blog post after a long first day. I was up at 7 to start my travels  and didn't get into bed until gone midnight. So a quick recap I gone on the train in Swansea and was sat all on my tod until @ameliaforsbrook gets on the train at Cardiff. I had met Amelia before but we had a quick catch about what we had both been up to lately. It is @ameliaforsbrook first time at the Fringe and my second my first being…

NTW TEAM in Edinburgh

Arrived in Edinburgh earlier today after far too many hours spent on the train from south Wales, listening to Chipmunk renditions of Chumbawamba.

Now, with over 600 pages of information in front of us, it’s fair to say that both Brent and I are a little overwhelmed. Officially, there are 2,543 shows on around the city this…

Bandwagon Theatre: Our Edinburgh Fringe (Day 3)

It's official, we survived our first show - with an audience of 15!! For those of you who are seasoned fringe-goers, I'm sure you can appreciate that this is a fantastic turn out (especially as the fringe average stands at an audience of just 4). We got in, did the show, got out and managed to receive some contributions from the audience. In my books this constitutes a success. A good start, if I do say so myself.

I've made a few 'notes to self' having been here for a couple of days… Continue

Bandwagon Theatre: Our Edinburgh Fringe (Day 2)

The tech rehearsal. I can proudly say that it went well. Of course, it wasn't without some slight hiccups but we did it in the small time slot we were given and are now ready to get going with the first show.

RULE NUMBER 2: Have an incredibly organised plan for your tech rehearsal, there won't be enough time for a run.

Having successfully made it through the tech it was then on to hit the royal mile with flyers. And then the heavens opened, in true Edinburgh style. We… Continue

An Open Letter from the Theatre Makers of Wales

The following letter went to The Western Mail and The Guardian today.  Copies will follow to the Heritage Ministry of the Welsh Government and the Israeli Embassy in London.  Many thanks to all who have supported this small but important attempt to speak up for the role of theatre in one of the world's most difficult situations.  I hope that our friends and colleagues in Jenin will be heartened to know that we hold them in our hearts.

Open Letter from the Theatre Makers of…
