Edinburgh Round-Up

As I write I am back at home in sunny Cardiff (well, in comparison) already feeling the post-Edinburgh festival blues. Firstly I'd like to give a big thank you to all those at NTW for allowing me to do this, I love Edinburgh and it has been a pleasure to write and promote for such an outstanding production. If I haven't already mentioned you should be watching NTW's The Radicalisation of Bradley Manning at…

Mr Clevver: Phase Two.

Hello all!

Just thought I'd do some updating of a sunny Friday afternoon. So, the Mr Clevver tour has started and is going well! *Breathes a heavy sigh of relief*

They ("They" being Heather Morison and Owen Davies - the performers/puppeteers/truck folk) started the tour in Cilgerran and they have just started back …

Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2013

As I'm sure you will have noticed, National Theatre Wales are re-staging The Radicalisation of Bradley Manning at this year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I had the great pleasure of looking after the show's marketing, and to be in Edinburgh with the team during tech week and the opening few nights of the show.

I'm sure you'll think I'm biased but I'll say this anyway: it's a really, genuinely brilliant show. I thought so the first time round, but the re-mounting,…

Rain of blood...first time with the band

I watched a rehearsal of Rain of Blood,  with the band in situ and performing the music last night - suddenly it's all starting to make s(usp)ense. I love it when the other creatives make a play into something a lot better than I wrote. The filming as I understand it is pretty much done, so as soon as we can get into the space we can see if that works within the context of an auditorium. I hope it does.

Join me on the Bradley Live-cast tonight

The Radicalisation of Bradley Manning is going very well up in Edinburgh, but I'm now back in Cardiff for a few days. Usually as a director this involves a strong feeling of separation anxiety as you hand a show over to cast and production team. However, with this production, since every show is live-cast, I can keep an eye on things wherever I am! This is probably a nightmare scenario for the poor actors, in terms of never being free from director's notes, but live-casting is certainly…

Edinburgh - Day 7

I am a bit wired and tired, so my apologies if my blogging is slowly degenerating into a sub-standard use of the English language.

Day 7 was now two days ago, so I though I'd get down my highlights first, and then fill in anything else later.

LGBT Edinburgh

As 'The Radicalisation of Bradley Manning' contains a lot of content about LGBT and Gay rights, the last couple of days I took a look around Edinburgh's LGBT scene and spreading the word about the show.

Yesterday I watched 'The Open Wide Tour' a brutally honest contemporary performance about Gay rights and taboo.

The cast admit, the show isn't…
