Tonight in Penygraig, 10 members of Valleys Kids are part of our Woodcraft Folk group performing in The Village Social.
The Valleys Kids have spent the last week conducting "happenings", to bring the show to life in the community, and start the transition of Penygraig into Cae Bach.
Today they added the words SOLD OUT to their washing line of…

I'm working on sound design ideas for the Shadow Warriors research project about the Welsh mining industry. I really want to incorporate this great song written by the late Gil Scott-Heron:
Last night I visited the Mynyddislwyn Male Choir at their rehearsal room in Penmaen Chapel, Oakdale. Carys Wynne has done an amazing job of arranging the song…

Just a quick blog to let anyone know who was thinking of coming to see Barefoot in The Park tonight that tonight's show has had to be cancelled due to the fact that the venue leaked so badly last night that we had to abandon our dress rehearsal and re - assess the situation (bloody rain)....it was too dangerous to continue with lights etc so we are desperately trying to find a new location and hoping we will open on wednesday once we have rebuilt the set in a new space!!!!
If anyone…

This Thursday 27th October will see the first showcase from the new Writing for Performance Group at Aberystwyth Arts Centre - Beginnings. Featuring new short plays by nine local writers, the evening is an opportunity to see rehearsed, script-in-hand performances by a company of local directors and actors.
The group was established in May, meeting monthly to share work and explore the challenges of writing for theatre.
The company producing the performances features…

I have to admit that I have been wondering for quiet a while what 'Home' means to me.

Only one week to go and Tin Shed Theatre's preparation's for Mr Edgar Allan Poe's Terrifying Tales at The Judges Lodging are going smoothly as ever!
We have made the all important stilts... TThis is me and resident carpenter (Aka my pap) after an afternoon of hard-graft-stilt-craft. I'm rather impressed with the outcome, even if I do say so…

There’s definitely a certain ignorance surrounding Theatre in Wales. Is the term ‘Welsh Theatre’ used specifically to define Welsh language theatre, or does it simply mean Theatre in Wales? I would prefer to argue the latter. Welsh theatre doesn’t necessarily need to be written in Welsh to evoke a Welsh sentiment. Some of Wales’ greatest writers wrote in English, albeit occasionally for the sometimes simple reason, they were unable to speak the Welsh tongue, arguably one of the…

I am at National Theatre Wales for a couple of months looking at the Engagement Programmes as part of my Clore Fellowship. Its fascinating but I am beginning to think that the term "Engagement", although a beautiful concept, has been deadened by its use in so many public policy initiatives. Over the last three weeks I have had numerous conversations; which started tentatively as I asked a few dry question about engagement, but ended up fascinating and insightful as colleagues talked instead…

Myself and Yusuf have started officially at NTW. My role is Creative Associate for De Gabay and I am really looking forward to the next nine months. I, like everyone else involved in De Gabay, have been 'chomping at the bit' to get going on this project (in what ever guise) and now…

This picture shows the actual state of the living room of my family’s home. Here, it is where most of the slide-projections that my father did to his friends and family happen.
At the time, there were more furnitures, sofas, chairs and the shelves were filled up with books.
On the centre,…

Today is my first day as the new Communications Assistant at National Theatre Wales. I'm really excited to be starting out on what sounds like it's going to be a really big adventure!
So far I've been introduced to everyone in the office - all really nice and friendly - and been through some of my standard induction stuff like where to find the fire exit! I'm going to be learning loads more about the upcoming shows, ways we communicate and the other people we work with over…

Sometimes time collapses. Warsaw was the first place I ever went outside of Britain. I was twenty one years old and had never flown - never had the money. But i had a job offer in a university in the far east of Poland, and was obsessed with Polish theatre, and wanted to change the world, so why not get on a plane with about £100 and a teach yourself Polish book, and a letter of invitation, and go and live behind the Iron Curtain for a year. The plane flew from Heathrow to Warsaw, at the…

My first Blog may as well be covert sales pitch, right?!
Tin Shed Theatre Co. has been working hard since Sunday to get it's John Frost Sq Rocket Ship (commissioned by the Riverfront, constructed within the walls of the U.R.B.A.N empty shop) off the ground, and following a successful ComedyPort opening party, LaunchPad, which played host to 6 awesome South Wales comedy acts (Ludus Ludius, Daniel Rowley, Francesca's Word Salad, Geraint Dafydd Evans, Elvis Preseli and the…
