Contact detail for Miriam Llywelyn

I wonder if anyone can help me? The Drama Association of Wales holds the contract for Miriam Llywelyn's play Jeli Bebis plus the English language translation. As we need to renew the contract I contacted playwright Miriam Llywelyn at the address we have for her but all correspondence has been returned; does anyone on NTW Community know her whereabouts?

I have been down every avenue possible (and I mean every avenue!) and I realise I've contacted many of you before, but just in case… Continue

The best kept secret ...

... is finally in the public domain! 13 ( yes, THIRTEEN) new productions creating not just a theatrical map of Wales, but also, in my view, a mix of productions that create signposts to the future of theatre itself.

Today's launch was memorable because it married these new beginnings with a contemporary voice; digital communication on a grandscale, but it remained, nonetheless, a human, very intimate event that allowed us to feel a sense of optimism and excitement about a shared… Continue

Hurrah! (And Phew!)

Okay, I'll admit it. While I was pretty confident that we had a good programme to announce - which is of course the only thing that REALLY matters - this morning I was wishing I'd never uttered the words, 'Let's do it live online!'

So many things could have gone wrong. But somehow they didn't. We saw Mathilde live from Snowdon (possibly the funniest moment of the day). The young people of Bridgend were inspiring, and Lucy and I managed to get all the shows in the right order. Even… Continue

Watching the webcast

Probably being very stupid here and it's maybe staring me in the face but, as someone who was working during the live launch, I'd really like to watch the webcast now I'm finally home from work ... is that possible and, if so, where is it?

Programme of events is really interesting and exciting - I've just applied for my passport!!

Design Tips

You must excuse me if I come across as a silly old duffer, as this is the first time I have blogged!

My background is in design, and I have just completed a fine art degree, so in a way I feel the need to feedback on the visual impact of the first seasons shows.

The website is very clever, with lots of visual tricks. But all I really wanted was a list of what was on, by who and where. This I would imagine is the first rule of design, make things easy for the viewer, make… Continue

Mid Wales? Don't we deserve something?

All looks very exciting, but there is a big hole in the middle of the map. South Wales is, of course, well served, with a sprinkle of events in the West and North, but the oversight of anything much north of Brecon in the middle is (alas) not unexpected. Oh well, plus ca change ...........

The First Year

Talk about diversity!!!! Congrats to NTW on the launch and making me drool. I know, there won't be everything to please everyone, but that's what theatre's about: you can't please everyone all the time...but you can have a damned good try. And if you think 'it's not for me' try it and see - you never know.

Which brings me to a salient point. There will be productions that people would love to get to, but due to circumstances, travel, work, etc., won't be able to. You'll see where… Continue

Notes on Bulletproof

Bulletproof is a verbatim play I've been working on for Replay, a theatre company in Belfast. It's about mental health in teenagers, and is made up from the words of a number of young people I met there. I thought it might be worth sharing here the notes I've written to introduce the play.

Notes on Bulletproof

One problem of promoting mental health in the young is that the phrase itself, 'mental…

Velvet Ensemble does 'Never, Fear, Love?' as part of WMC's Incubator Project - A Note from V

On Monday this week, we started our new writing process 'Never, Fear, Love?' When devising this process Bethan Marlow and I thought it would be an amazing experience to challenge ourselves, the director and other actors to identify things we have never done, love doing and fear doing professionally, stick them all in a hat and randomly pick one thing per day and have at it! So when Monday finally came around I have to say that I started to question whether this was a good idea or not. Well,… Continue

Phyl Harries, Alexander Vlahos and Lauren Phillips at the Dylan Thomas Centre

Out of Order Theatre are producing a rehearsed reading of a play based on the life of Dylan Thomas, at the Dylan Thomas Centre on Monday 2nd November at 7.30pm.

“Not a little bright, you kowtowing little cretin, bloody blazing is what you wanted! To shine out above them all, the North Star pointing the way forward.”

“This is the fantasy of the mind of the fantasist and dreamer Dylan Thomas. It is a place of country born shadows, city rough arse-backwards dawn, chittering… Continue
