A Midge Summer Nights Dream

It was a beautiful setting. Tall trees, green embankments, mist-covered valleys. It was the Afan Forest Park and I was there on Saturday evening ready for Taking Flight Theatre's production of A Midsummer Nights Dream. As were seemingly thousands of midges, who swooped and dived at… Continue

Just Back from Edinburgh

If you're heading up, I would like to whole-heartedly recommend Orphans by Dennis Kelly at the Traverse (though you'll have to fight for a ticket) and My Name is Sue by Dafydd James and Ben Lewis, at the Pleasance Courtyard. My Name is Sue was so good we saw it twice - Orphans was so good that I don't think I could bear seeing it again.

Edinburgh Festival

Just got off the train yesterday from Glasgow to Edinburgh and was immediately assaulted by leaflet thrusters !! Took refuge in the Fruitmarket gallery where there is a fab exhibition by Eva Hesse - much more interesting than a hell of a lot of theatre!!

Tried to get tickets for various shows but they were sold out - have to come back another day !! - but I did get taken to a show in the Pleasance courtyard - Francis, the Holy Jester by Dario Fo - performed by Fo's friend and collaborator… Continue

Improv Musicians

Hello one and all,

As time goes forth, I realise that the vital role that is needed for generally the whole improv community on Cardiff at the moment is one (which this blog will focus on), musicians that imrprovise (ie, Improv Musicians) and two, teccies that improv too.

Personally in my attempt at getting a to the stage where we can do a full musical that is improvised would be great. In order to do so, it is vital to locate some Improv Musicians in… Continue

Writer on Fourth Plinth tonight

Many of you will be aware of the Anthony Gormley Fourth Plinth project in Trafalgar Square. One & Other.

None of you will yet be aware that I've been selected to spend one hour on the plinth between 3.00am and 4.00am Wednesday August 12th. (UK time)

To be honest I didn't know myself until lunchtime yesterday when, at 36 hours notice, I was asked if I would take the place of someone who'd had to cancel their hour. (Clearly somebody with a lot more sense than me -… Continue

Weird but Popular...

Travelled over to Newcastle this week to see the new show by Wildworks, the company started recently by Bill Mitchell and Sue Hill, two of the original founders of Cornwall’s Kneehigh. ‘The Beautiful Journey’ was a huge outdoor spectacle set some time in the future where water is scarce, bees have disappeared, cabaret tricks are the… Continue

Chasing the elusive connectivity click ... or, what can social media do for the Arts?

Individuals started it. Media moguls saw the opportunity and started buying-up the platforms. And now, organisations smell an untapped market & people are trying to make money out of it. Making money by restricting access. Making money by selling user applications. Making money by telling people how they can use it to make money.

What am I talking about? I'm talking about the proliferation of social media platforms that have burst into our lives in recent years. But now its got to this… Continue
