Bike ride across Wales

As National Theatre Wales Creative Associate I have been tasked with the challenge of evolving the ‘Assembly’ strand of our work.  I have to cycle across Wales, in order to enjoy, explore and familiarize myself with the Welsh landscape.  I have experienced some of the beauty on offer across the country & felt the best way to experience more would be a bike journey.  My 13 day journey will begin on 2nd September 2011 and will finish if all goes accordingly on the 14th… Continue

Word 4 Word - Keeping the Momentum

6:20pm Wednesday evening, I rush into Cardiff Arts Institute only to discover people eating in the space Word 4 Word is supposed to take place.  There are a few poets already waiting & my host Ali Goolyad hasn’t turned up yet.  I rush around with Gem White sorting the room out around the diners and out of the window I see Ali strolling in, the relief!  Now at least I have a host.

The only other stressful moment in the first ever NTW supported, CAI hosted Word 4 Word, was when I…

Trip to Peer Group

During a Skype meet with Henry Alles, performer/director from Dutch rural arts organisation Peer Group, a conclusion was reached that a visit was in order to understand their specific way of working.  This would make easier the organising of Henry’s trip in October to Rhayader for a phase of R&D.

So I braced myself for a train, coach, plane, train, car travel combo and set off on my…

Abdul's Stepping into Welsh grounds

Having spent a week in Wales I felt that I needed to tell you all about my amazing and at times extraordinary first week in Wales.

I was given the opportunity through Step Change (programme with the National Theatre in England) to come out to Wales and shadow my mentor John McGrath. John came to London in mid June and I had a meeting with him and we decided that coming to Wales would be a good idea and a great comparison to my first placement in the historically rich and rooted building of… Continue
