Emergence people at Tipping Point event

Emergence our arts and sustainability project here in Wales was very inspired by the work of the people at Tipping Point. You could say we are all part of a broader family of arts ventures that are thinking about things like social justice, activism and climate change. Here is a chance to get to one of their brilliant events.

Some of you will have seen Alan Dix (Director of My LAST CARE) perform his Peachy Coochy piece as part of the Emergence conference at Taliesin Swansea. Also…

At Last Launch of Emergence Document plus FREE BREAKFAST!!

I’ve just read the Emergence document cover to cover. I’m on an interminable train journey travelling back from Machynlleth to Swansea (you know the one!) after a visit to Centre for Alternative Technology to discuss the next phase of Emergence. It feels like an extraordinary  time, poised between reflecting on Emergence past and planning for Emergence future.

Maybe I should say a few things about Emergence to put all this into some sort of context. Last year whilst on sabbatical from…

This Imaginary Woman

Next week as part of the Magdalena project celebrations ‘Magdalena@25’ I will be revisiting a show I made with Volcano  almost ten years ago – ‘This Imaginary Woman’. The subject of the show is my mother- about her bringing up 5 kids on her own, her illness with Multiple Sclerosis, her death in 1996 – she is this imaginary woman. The show was created as a ‘song cycle’ in the vein of a Berlinesque ‘Kurt Weil’ type cabaret with influences…

Emergence Swansea

Now begins the countdown to Emergence Swansea which is at Taliesin on Saturday 29th January. This is our second event so in some ways I know a little of what to expect – or what to hope for. Our first event was in Cardiff in October and it was an incredible day in terms of…

Emergence

The day after Emergence!!

We had an incredible day at Chapter yesterday. There were around 70 people from the arts community from some of Wales' biggest organisations to individual freelance artists - writers, visual artists and performers. It was an extraordinary gathering. There were inspiring presentations from Paul Allen from Centre for Alternative Technology and Alison Tickell from Julies's Bicycle. John from NTW responded to the 'One Wales One Planet' document and challenged us…
