The NYTW14 Design Process by Cerian Wilshere-Davies

Cerian Wilshere Davies – The Theatre Design Process

Production Member on Residency with the National Youth Theatre of Wales. Aberystwyth Arts Centre. August/September 2014

The process has been fun but also very challenging. We began making straight away.

We spent many a day painting, cutting and ‘vinyling’ to create the futuristic Rubix’s Cube/TRON styled set.

We then started on making the theatre space. We put…

Day 4 in the Nash House!

Today has been a very productive day. We started the day by listening to the recordings we made of the public of Aberystwyth answering our questions. We created verbatim theatre by recreating what we heard and using the voices to create…

NYTW perform at Arad Goch Opening Doors International Festival by Dafydd Lansley

I’m Dafydd Lansley but you can call me Daf. I’ve been a part of National Youth Theatre of Wales for over three years now and each year offers a new challenge to be faced. This is the first time we have ever remounted a production and on top of that we’re doing it in three days. Weirdly enough, it all came back to us pretty quickly on the first day. The wonders of muscle memory, eh?

We spent two days in the amazing Arad Goch Theatre and now we’re treading familiar ground in the…

WE ARE BACK!! NYTW/Frantic Assembly by Rhys Warrington

Rhys’ Blog – dead born grow

WE ARE BACK!! This is the first time that I’ve ever remounted a show and its proving to be a real challenge…but still very exciting. 7 months since we last performed the piece its interesting how quickly everything comes flooding back…the body does remember (something Frantic assured us of last summer).

We started by recapping and re-remembering the major movement sections of the piece…which was simple enough to do…but finding the detail…

National Youth Theatre Wales - The Body Remembers by Jessica Tait

DEAD BORN GROW a blog through the eyes of Jessica Tait

After 7 months away from the rehearsal space the cast returned to Aberystwyth yesterday to rework ‘dead born grow’. We were all extremely excited to be back together, performing at the ‘Agor Drysau Opening Doors Festival’.

We got straight back into rehearsals, covering the major movement pieces, tweaking…

Day 6.

We are pooped.

Got into rehearsals this morning and there was no rest for the wicked, jumped straight in to our first full blocked piece where we added and played around with the choreography to make the jumps bigger and more physically demanding. Get Your Clothes Off!!! by Rhys Warrington

GET YOUR CLOTHES OFF!!!

After a successful sandwich it was back to the Frantic NYTW rehearsal room. One group carried on with some ‘Crazy Dance Madness’ while the other had an ‘Emotional Thought Provoking Sit Down’.

We then moved on to one of the day’s main events – Taking Clothes off Each Other (or just one lucky soul). It wasn’t as easy as you might think –…

Little Twitches - Bethan Rose Young-NYTW & Frantic Assembly

Little Twitches -  Bethan Rose Young

Hiya,
So today has been pretty incredible thus far, Frantic are wonderful. We did an exercise today in which we observed and identified each other’s habits whilst telling a story, and it was really bizarre to hear about things your body does without you even realising it, the little…

Rich, shared experience - Fran Brunzel Roberts NYTW & Frantic Assembly

Beautiful, Rich Shared Experience - Fran Brunzel-Roberts

Day two; legs are a bit stiff but I blame myself for the post 10 hour rehearsal day run down the mammoth that is the Aber hill! So far the morning has involved a very generous, open and truthful session in which a lot of work has been sparked from. We have moved each other and it’s exciting to think that with these…
