A chance to headline your views!

If you’ve dreamed a dream of reviewing blockbusters like Les Misérables or you’re a keen theatre-goer whose opinion could steal the show, a new arts critiquing scheme could help you to get your voice heard.

Co-ordinated by Bridgend County Borough Council’s Arts and Community Development team, the 3rd Age Critics scheme offers expert guidance to help people aged 50 and over to discover new ways to respond to a variety of art forms.

Participants on the scheme will make their first foray into the world of reviewing at the Wales Millennium Centre, with Cole Porter’s musical romantic comedy, ‘High Society’ taking to the stage. The centre is donating a limited number of press tickets to the scheme for the production’s opening night on Tuesday 12 March, further tickets may be made available during the run.

Funded by the council’s Older People’s Strategy, which aims to improve the wellbeing of older people through encouraging them to be mentally and physically active, the budding reviewers will enjoy a free workshop with a professional arts critic before the performance,
with travel arrangements and refreshments also being provided. They will then have the opportunity to complete their first arts review.

Councillor Lyn Morgan, BCBC’s Cabinet Member for Wellbeing and the council’s Older People Champion, said: “This is a great chance to test out your critiquing credentials and enjoy an evening with fellow theatre buffs too.”
