7 Wonders in 7 Days - Crowdsourcing a round-the-world charity fundraising trip

This is a rather belated post about a social media powered round-the-world charity fundraising trip I’m planning called 7 Wonders in 7 Days.

I’m blogging about it here because John McGrath urged me too! Sorry it’s taken so long, John.

I know John from his days as chairman of the board of Performing Arts Network and Development Agency (PANDA) of which I’m still a member.

7 Wonders in 7 Days is a social media powered round-the-world charity fundraising trip I’m embarking on in September.

The plan is to visit the new 7 wonders of the world in 7 days, starting on 9th September 2009 - 9/09/09, raising £777,000 for 7 charities, one of which is Alzheimer's Research Trust.

It was inspired by my grandmother's funeral in Nigeria in February. My Gran died from health complications arising from Alzheimer's Disease.

You can find out more about the project and follow my progress at http://www.7wondersin7days.com

It is being managed online with people providing input and support from Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr etc.

Widely read comic fantasy author Sir Terry Pratchett OBE has sent a signed book for the launch event and charity auction at Manchester's Living Room tomorrow.

The celebrated author best known for his popular and long-running Discworld series of comic fantasy novels has sent a signed copy of his children's novel, A Hat Full of Sky.

Sir Terry Pratchett was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's disease in 2007. He is patron of Alzheimer's Research Trust, one of the charities being supported by the 7 Wonders in 7 Days trip and has sold 65 million books worldwide.

The charity auction also features a special performance from award winning cellist and pioneer of contemporary music, Peter Gregson.

Peter Gregson fuses contemporary and classical music with contemporary digital culture, in March he performed at Twitter's offices in San Francisco. He also performed at Twestival. More recently, in April he performed at the Classic FM Live concert at a sold out Royal Albert Hall.

Peter’s performance at the 7 Wonders in 7 Days Charity auction will be livestreamed. Incidentally, he will be speaking at the Arts Council England-sponsored AmbITion roadshow in London next month.
