CAKE SUBMISSIONS

Deadline: Mon 16 May 2011

CAKE is looking for 3 x 3-minute guerrilla theatre pieces that will take place on one day in a variety of venues in Falmouth.

The May session of CAKE will be taking place as part of the Fal River Festival. 27th May - 5th June 2011

The same 3-minute pieces will then be performed during the evening, along with one longer piece of 30 minute max.. Venues to be confirmed, however the evening performance venue will be aboard the Black Swan.  The plays will be performed under sail - or rather, engine.  Should be a fantastic event!  Get penning!

Guerrilla theatre is theatre with a political message. However, we are particularly interested in pieces that contain three characters who are looking for a new experience.

Ideally the pieces will not be gender-dependent.

We hope this approach will be a slightly more exciting way of testing out/showcasing your writing than our usual sedentary style! We can achieve this thanks to the flexibility and support provided by The Works and CAKE.

Productions. Deadline for submission is 16th May 2011.

If you would like to submit either a 3-minute or a 30-minute piece, please contact Elaine Ruth White, at white_wonders@btinternet.com

SENDING OFF YOUR BABIES – A PANEL DISCUSSION ON GETTING YOUR PLAY PRODUCED IN THE UK

Sun 15 May 2011

You’ve finally finished writing your play and maybe even submitted it to some UK producing theatres. What happens now? WRiTEON invites writers to a free panel discussion on this subject.

3pm on Sunday, 15 May on the top floor of  B Bar, Cambridge. The event - with plenty of time for an audience Q&A, will give new and experienced  playwrights the chance to talk to real literary managers about submitting plays to new writing theatres.

The panel includes literary managers from three of the powerhouses of new writing in the UK – Naia Johns, Literary Administrator for The Bush Theatre,  Steve Harper, Literary Manager, theatre503, and a literary manager from Paines Plough.

The Bush Theatre in west London has been championing new writers since 1972. It has recently launched Bushgreen (www.bushgreen.org), a website where new playwrights can share and comment on their work. Theatre503, in south London, forms relationships with new writers, looking for work to produce in theatre but also developing new writers through its Foundation programme. Paines Plough is an award-winning touring company that exclusively commissions and produces new plays and helps new writers develop their craft.

The panellists will be talking about what to think about before submitting a play – what to do and what not to do. We’ll also be finding out what happens to your play when it is being considered – who is reading it and what they’re looking for.

Sometimes it can feel as if  your play has disappeared into a black hole once you have submitted it. Don’t miss this rare chance to find out exactly what is happening to your play while you’re waiting to hear back from the theatre.

This event is free and open to all, but please book a place by writing to news@writeon.org.uk.
