I've just returned from a 3 day trip to Anglesey in North Wales. I was a visiting TEAM filmmaker working with Taran an organisation specialising in independent living for people with learning disabilities. The trip came as a follow up to the NTW Anglesey Assembly project which the group successfully gained project funding from in 2013.

The aim was to produce a film examining sustainability and energy production on the island.

On the first day 10 of us (5 students and 5 support workers) piled into two cars and set off around the island to look at the various ways electricity was produced.

We visited Dinorwig hydroelectric power station (known as Electric Mountain) in Llanberis. The station consists of 10 miles of tunnels dynamited and shockcreted out of an old slate mine and housed in the largest man-made cavern in Western Europe (big enough to fit St Pauls cathedral). It also holds a number of records including being the world's fastest power station (it can generate electricity within 90 seconds).

We also visited the Wilfur nuclear power station to explore the benefits of electricity production through uranium fission. The station is currently in its defueling phase, it will be fully decommissioned by 2102....long after all our days.

On the second day we edited the video together, and one of the students even brought his keyboard along for a sing song about energy efficiency in the home!

It was a very enjoyable trip and a great first visit to Anglesey. All the staff at Taran were extremely welcoming and the dedication they show to their clients very inspiring. Also Abi, the project co-ordinator and her family were very hospitable in feeding me and ferry me around for the duration of my stay.

I've had a great experience, met some great people and learned a fair bit about the various methods of electricity production!

Hopefully someday I'll have the chance to return!
