After well over a year in planning, I’m super excited to be able to announce a call for artists to join us on our first international artist development residency – ‘ARTISTS’ PLAYGROUND: TUTBAT’ in Collaboration with the fantastic Performance Group TUIDA.

This residency model is based on the experience and methods of both companies and will focus on supporting the creation of innovative ideas, artistic experiments and cross-cultural collaborations. It will be based in beautiful surroundings of the TUTBAT Arts Farm, a creation centre and home to Performance Group TUIDA.

During the residency, participants will have time for making and sharing new work, for reflection, discussion and investigation of personal approaches to making, and how work is made in the wider world.

The group will be made up of a diverse group of 16 artists (from Wales and South Korea plus guests from India and Japan). This year we are particularly interested in hearing from artists who interested in socially engaged practice and site-located and immersive performance; from artists that are from under-represented groups and from artists at various levels in their careers, from emerging to mid-career.

Why Korea>?

Korea is a fascinating and inspiring country with a rapidly developing arts scene and we have been lucky enough to host four Korean artists during our Summercamp residencies in 2014 and 2015. Their contributions have always been hugely influential and inspiring. Furthermore, this year sees the British Council celebrate a year of closer collaboration between cultural organisations in the UK and Korea. The Artists’ Playground residency has been selected to be a part of 'UK-Korea 17-18 ‘Creative Futures’ Season'.
